sound bank or Sound creation

Hi,
I bought a used 2000 XL last week. The Floopy drive has been replaced by the ZIP drive. I don' t have any sound banks yet, neither did they come with the machine, nor did I buy any additionally. But what I need is different drumsounds on each of the pads
I was told to record a CD into the machine and then I will sample the sound. If I take a commercial AUDIO CD, it will obviously only let me use parts of the complete sample. I am "fourtunate" enough to posess Sample CDs where individual drumkits are on seperate tracks. But I still have to go into the editing and cut/copy out the different sounds/insturments of the drum kit and assign them to each of the pads?! Either I am too impatient or doing something wrong. I have thought to myself: there must be a way to get preset sounds I can load up to the machine. But then the ZIP drive is so outdated, that I should get a card reader - one for the machine and one for my PC. Would you agree? (to whom ever it may concern...) I just need drumsounds in a less time consuming way.

yeah card reader is way to go, I just got one for my pc and xl and a couple gig cards. The you can just take your wavs/snds and toss em on the card.. goto load in mpc and set em to the pads.. even better you can get the mpc editor program and fill all 64 pads with sounds very easily. and also set the perams.

The card reader is kinda expensive but well worth it. Was really easy to install and works like a charm. going from shitty ass floppys to this is no comparison.

I don't know if anything is really outdated. Sure, the card readers are the newest things, but do you really need it? The good ting about 100 meg zips is that you can get them cheap. I pretty much abuse my zips.. I gig with my MPC, and toss the zips around.. been dropped many times.. stored in dusty locations, and I've yet to have a problem...even with teh disks that I FIRST got with my MPC (over 5 years old). I originally had a floppy drive and I yanked it out for the internal zip, but there are times when I wish I still had the floppy. Why? Well, I have friends with MPC2000's that still use floppies, and when they want to record a beat, they have to bring their machines with them.. instead of just the floppy.... or if I'm at their spot, I can take a beat I made home. So there is an advantage of having the cheap and nasty 1.44mb floppy. Now the plus side to Zip disks is that since they are only 100megs (or 250 in a few cases), you can get them in bulk on ebay. I copped 10 of em for $15, only to have viewed a completed item sell 20 zips (1oo meg) for $8.00 a day later.... I felt ripped off. These are used disks, but like I mentioned earlier, I have never had a problem. Older MPC's don't support folders, so sometimes smaller is better. If you can get an external card reader, that's cool, but sometimes I wish I didn't get rid of my floppy drive for the explained reasons above.
