It may sound very simple the way I explained it, but it works fine! But of course I guess it all depends on what kind of filters you're using? Usually when I filter a sample to take the bass, ill filter it in the mpc and also run it through a High Cut filter in the mixer and usually (depending on the sample) I can get a nice phat bass that way. i of course eq it a bit more, maybe add some compression to make it a little punchy, but it works for me

the reason i say it may depend on the filters you're using is because when i've used GURU's filters, I think they're terrible. no matter what setting I use, all I get is mud. but when I use say the s5000 filters, I can get a much better sound. or even the mpc's filters are better then the ones in Guru...just a thought..i may be wrong

I think I now understand my problem :D because I try so much around but I dont consider that was not my method but my filter (is a old free VST Plugin that I have some years - I dont realized the differents between the filters until yet)
But I have now another problem I hope you have time to help me with this.
The problem is that I dont know what for a VST Plugin or DXi Plugin Filter I can use that gave me the right result. (I need a VST Plugin Filter or DXi Plugin Filter because of I use Soundforge for my layering and so on and Logic for sequencing then I dont have yet enough money for the MPC 4000 or a S5000 Sampler)
I hope you can give me one or some more names by good VST or DXi Plugin Filters for my Soundforge, I try look around now but I dont find until yet a good one therefore I hope you could name me one or two or so.
And I have a last question, understand I it right that the LowEnd Theory work like the following way: I sample a melody then I use a LowPassFilter (ca. cutoff by 100hz with some resonance and so on) then chop this sample, pitch the chops and flip it around and that it is, is this now right?
Thanks

P.S.: Still sorry for my english :P

well you're gonna get different opinions on what the "low end theory" is. everybody does it different from what i've been reading. but the main point of doing this (imo) is to extract the bass from a sample. however you go about doing that, cool. whatever works, right?

as far as you using the wrong filter, im not positive that's the problem here. maybe but maybe not, you know? its just a thought because I've used a few different kinds of filters and they all have their own sound. i heard all the S series samplers have nice filters. not just the s5000. it just happens to be the one I use.

not all that familiar with vst's so I cant really help there.

There are different ways to approach your problem and there are huge differences between filters, esp. digital ones.
Try Zapfilter Vst, has many algorithms to choose from and always got me good results

D-Star wrote:I have problems with understanding the Low End Theory because of all my bass sounds I have create sound like sh*t.
My method is the following:
First I sample a piano (one note) or a bassnote (for example Ron Carter) in Soundforge then I filter it with a LowPassFilter down to 90hz.
After this I normalize it then I load the original sample bring the volume of this sample down to ca. -13dB and filtered it with a HighPassFilter (ca. 200hz) to eliminate the lows of this sound. My next step is to layer this
two sounds in NI Battery by move this sounds to one cell then I create ca. 3 cells with this sound and tune these about 3 or more up.My last step is to compress it with following settings:
threhold -14dB ratio 4:1 or a little bit higher, hard knee, attack: 20ms release by the automatic of the compressor
I hope somebody of you have time to explain me the Low End Theory because of I only need this deep bass sound all the
other things like drum layering, compressing, flipping a sample and so on I learned by searching and reading
in the great forum over the years but this last important step I dont understand.
Thanks

P.S.: Sorry for my bad english

Thank you all a lot. I now can make this basstones I would like to create. :D :D :D
I now recognize that my used filter missed the important things because of
he only has a cutoff and resonance knob plus a Wet/Dry and Out Level and altogether he has a bad sound quality.
But now with the filter (ZapFilter) rinseout posted I can make would a like to make really good sounding DEEP basstones. Thanks rinseout and all other that gave answers to my problem and I only can say that this is a great forum. :D
Plus I must excuse for my stupid question to dablunt (at the very begining of this theard) because of I ask him to tell me what for a softsynth I must use to following his explanation.Because of at this moment I dont know that filters have waveforms, attack, release and so on I only know this terms from my synth because of my filter (free old VST Plugin) dont have those opportunities. But now I know what a filter can do for me and what a filter have for opportunities.
Thanks!!!!

Sorry for the english :)

Thank you a lot for gave me the name of this filter. Now I can make these basstones I would like to make. :D
One last question can you gave me maybe a name of another VST filter.
I like this one you posted but I like to hear some other filters so that I can hear perhaps the difference between the filters and what for a filter works best for me.
Thanks

Sorry for my english :)

im not too familiar with the filters on Kontakt, but i know it has some (i think.....). well, the last time I used it there were a few different filters. im not sure how they sound, but they may be cool. i think you can use Kontakt as a vsti but i may be wrong. Kontakt is a soft sampler and includes several different effects like filter...
