It's my theory....will it work?

I am on my way to work and I thought I would put this out there and see the response.

Lets say I have a sample(4 bar) and it plays at 120 bmp and I want to chop it up over a 85 bpm seqence(4 bar) so that I only have to hit 7 different pads over the period of 4 bars and everything connect smooth so that there is no spaces inbetween the sounds of the pad strikes(I hope that made sense). I am thinking that a good method to do this would be to

1.chop it into 64 equal pieces

2. make it a patch phrase

3.change the tempo to 85

4.convert the patch back to a normal sample

5.chop the normal sample into the 7 pieces

I have not tried this, but am I on the right track??

probly not, but im pissed off my mp is 4000km away and i havent touched in a fortnight,, had some venting to do lol
