just won s950 on ebay...

i already own an mpc60 but i couldnt pass up this auction for the s950... auction closed at $199.99(my opening bid!) so im paying $233 after shipping... any info on s950 would be appreciated.. also any ideas about using the 60 and the s950 together would be cool too... what features does the s950 have that the mpc doesnt? filters? is that it? hmmm.... anyone else own an s950 and an mpc60? im also in need of a owners manual for the s950, anyone know where i could dload one? i couldnt find one....

Ok I use a s950 with an mpc60. I use the mpc for bass and beats and the s950 for chopped breaks and s**t. The good thing about the s950 is you can sample from a bandwidth of 7.5 kHz - 48khz. So if you know you don't need the extra clarity you can sample at a lower rate still all at 12bit.

The added features of the s950 over the mpc60 are:

More ram (2.25megs)
Loop features (play forward & backward looping)
Filter
Timestrecth

Oh and did I mention it's cheap too!!

also was wondering since my 60s floppy drive is inoperable, after i have both machines hooked via midi(im a midi noob) would i be able to load sounds into the s950 and sequence them in the mpc??? im not too knowledgable about this stuff yet, but i am enrolled into a midi class at the local community college that starts next week.... im hoping that maybe by linking the 2 machines together that i will bypass needing to replace my floppy drive in the mpc right away!

Yeah, but you will need to save your sequences somehow, You could record it all before you shut down, leave it on, or play the midi to your computer.

Better get the floppy fixed.

i could save the sequences via SCSI zip drive... so if i understand right anything that is loaded into the s950 will be able to be sequenced in mpc? then saved in the mpc?

Well with a zip drive you should be fine.

The samples in the S950 will have to be saved, and save sequences and any MPC samples on the MPC.

It shouldn't be too hard too fix a floppy drive. If you can hold a screwdriver you can do it yourself. A new floppy-drive should set you back, what, ehm maybe $10?

Are ya trying to load your MPC sounds onto your s950. If so, this will not work. If you are wanting to sequence on the mpc and use the s950 as a sampler then basically that is what the two instruments were made for. I don't see there being a problem. When your sequences are written on the mpc if you want them to play from s950 you HAVE to make sure the tracks are saved as MIDI tracks and not DRUM tracks in the type field. The s950 will recognise channels 1A through to 4D on the mpc, depending on which midi output on the mpc you use. Midi output 1 is 1A to 16A, Midi output 2 is 1B to 16B, Midi output 3 is 1C to 16C...you get the idea. My setup with the mpc is 1A=Super bass station, 2A-16A=S5000 (using thru midi), 1B= JV1080, 1C-6C=VP9000 7C-11C=Nord 2 (using thru midi) and 1D-8D= s950 (as it only has eight channels) . You will to setup the channels on the s950 so the mpc will know what channel to play from. It's all in the manual.
