SYSTEM TEST, What the hell does this mean?

fat 16 is the format you need for the card. I was getting the "wrong card" message with other formats.

I took it to the retailer today and got the CF card formatted with their MPC2500 - so now it's up running again :D

6) you might want to check the master settings by pressing MODE key and OTHER, to reset any thing that might have been defaulted from the "SYSTEM TEST" (which is no more than the dang thing freezing up on you) somestimes caused by turning the machine off while playing a sequence or while the machine is processing something your in the middle etc etc.) i've had it happen a few times, so i'm fluent w/ what to do.

MAKE SURE YOU FREQUENTLY SAVE YOUR PROJECTS JUST INCASE UNTIL THE NEW OS COMES OUT.

DON'T PANIC, YOUR MPC IS NOT BROKEN, IT'S NOT DEFECTIVE, JUST TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND APPLY THESE STEPS.

PROBLEM SOLVED, TTTTTRRRRUUUSSSTTT MMMMEEEEEE.

NOW, THERE SHOULD BE NO MORE QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS UNLESS YOU DON'T SPEAK ENLISH OR CAN'T READ THIS, ONE OF THE TWO..LOL.

Or just install the latest OS..and you don't have to be bothered by this error....

Simple solution. Hold down the Window button as your machine is powering up. This will get it out of "System Test" Mode. Once out, you can download the current OS (1.21) from your Compact Flash.

Yeah, I'm convinced of that now too. I was still assuming it is a failure that only occurs on some machines under certain conditions. But it's probably just some debugging function they left activated or something like that...

It will occur on every machine under certain conditions. When everyone was getting this error, I wasn't. But then I started taxing it and putting it through all sorts of test/trials. It was then, I started to get the error. Even after I fixed it the first time and re-installed OS 1.2, I took it across country with me. I turned it on, and the error was back. I have since installed OS 1.21...

It happened on mine without any apparent reason, sitting there cozily on its table, I switched it on and got the screen. Maybe it just doesn't like the heat.

Was the error there again immediately after you installed 1.20 again? Or only after some time?

I fixed the error, and everything was good. Played with it...my son played with it...everything was all good. Then two weeks or so later, it pops back up...it was in the heat the second time..but it was never in the heat before that.

From my experience with getting the system test, I had it for about 3 months without ever getting the bug. Upgraded with each new OS update. I only did the MOST BASIC functions with my 2500: loaded samples, saved project files, etc. And when I was hit with the system test bug a few weeks ago, the heat had not yet started. Hopefully this added info will help in our quest to solve this mysterious problem.

It's not a mysterious problem. It is a bug with OS 1.2. Akai fixed this bug and released OS 1.21.

for the record: me had just been struck by the horrible SYZTEM TEZT welcome screen on my precious little machine...

maybe it has something to do with heat as it´s freaking hot in here - but i think it has no obvious cause. happened on os 1.2 by the way.

ok, here´s what i did: turned on the pc i just had switched off - rushed here - read all eleven pages of this tread - downloaded os 1.21 - noticed it differed from the normal mpc os naming convention - put it in root of the original cf card - switched mpc on with windows key hold - inserted cf card as prompted, hit ok and watched the show... 8)
after the erasing and programming -> surprise!!! NO message to power cycle for the new os to get up, but instead booted directly to the main screen...
checked midi and other pages and found confirmed os 1.21 and all my settings unchanged.
tried out couple of functions - record, trim, program - recorded some small loops - freaked some fx - all was normal.
now i tried the scary part: load something from the harddisk without getting the wrong file error... no problems...
now power cycle - up again in a glimpse and no whatsoever error besides the known issues, yet.
