mono vs stereo

ok im new to all this.

but why do I hear about ppl turning everything to mono when they track out (instead of stereo)?

What does this do?

People don't turn EVERYTHING into mono, each individual out on back of the mpc's are ONLY mono anyway. If/When you track a stereo sample through them you MUST use 1/2, 3/4, 5/6 or 7/8 for stereo. MPC will NOT output a stereo sample from just one individual output, it will not give you that option, depending on your sample it will force you into a stereo route (2outs) or a mono route (1out).

sop basically its only used when your tracking out the beats?

my friend, tracks the left side mono, then pans it hard left. Then he tracks out the other side and pans it hard right. (into protools)

What are the benefits of this?

Isn't mono L panned 100% Left + mono R panned 100% Right the same as stereo? your friend is weird.

i dunno you tell me...

^^ same thing as panning hard right on your mixer before recording a sample, and then selecting the input mono r. You get the one signal through both left and right channels.
