CF card question

I have a 1 GB CF card, I want to fill the card up with samples, will I need to save room for the programs and sequnces I make if I want to save them to that same card....or will the MP break the CF's memory up into sections like the TritonLe and MC909 does with smartmedia cards? I've never worked with CF's before....so go easy on me.

The MPC doesn't break the CF down into separate areas for different data types (samples, programs, sequences, OS binaries and so on), so it will appear as one 1GB (in your case) disk. You can use folders to organize the data.

So, if you fill your CF with samples, there will be no room left for anything else.

Thanx.....I almost filled it up. I also have a 128mb CF. Which would be the best way to use both. Put all the samples on the 1 gig, and save all the sequences and programs that I make with these samples to the 128, or the other way around....you know....save all my work on the 1 gig, and use the 128 for loading up samples, using the 1 gig CF more like a hard drive I guess????? or does it really even make a difference and or sense....?

if you can, spend some money on a real hard drive, it's absolutely worth it!
i have a 20gb hdd, i use it mainly as read-only sample-source, i safe all my actual work on a 500mb cf-card until it's completly done. then i transfer it to my hdd.
this works just perfect. and the hdd cost me 20€ on ebay, that's much less than spending more money for a 500mb cf.

YEAH, I know the hard drive is the way to go, I'm just looking for a solution for what I have to work with at the momment( only had the thing for 2 or 3 days now, at least I maxed out the ram ) ). What drive did you install?, and why only 20gigs?

i have a hitachi travelstar, but i get the 'wrong file' error, not sure if it's the drive or the os... that's one reason for my use as a 'read-only' drive
and only 20 gig because i collected and made samples since 1998 and i only have 3 gig at the moment. i mainly use one-shot drums, so there are no megabyte-eating loops and long samples. 20gb is enough space for the next 5 years for me.
