i noticed when i chopped my samples and laid em out on the pads, they sounded **** than the original sample...Are you guys telling me that this is how it works?..i wouldnt have even got this fukin thing if i new i would do this...i listen to the original, then compare it to my slices, and i get so dissapointed...If i save my sample as mono with another program first will that keep some of the quality? That really really sucks..
I have bitced this also... i have tried to get around it but i cant seem to - is this the same with other mpc's???
I've never noticed this problem of loss of sound quality. Anyway, here's what I know.
If you use slice to chop the samples, then yes, it will make the samples mono after slicing. You can (in 2.1 and the various 3.0 betas) view either the left or the right channel to do your slicing.
If you use edit->extract to get a hit out of a sample, then it remains in stereo.
If you want just the right channel, or just the left, then sample the source material in mono, which is straightforward to set up in Record mode. Or use the OS 3 beta, which has a stereo->mono conversion which allows you to do that.
When you use slice mode, and then convert to program, you have a decay (or is it release? can't quite remember) option. On my machine that defaults to 10. Set this to zero if you want to get just the slice. The larger that parameter, the more of a 'tail' it adds to each slice that comes from the beginning of the next slice, IIRC. If you want nice clean chops, then set it to zero.
I've no complaints about the 1K's chopping performance, and I've not experienced any sound degradation while chopping. Maybe I've been lucky with my source material, or maybe it's the way I use it.
