got my 2500

UPS guy delivered the 2500 at noon when was having morning coffee.

First impressions count and this was one sleek black piece of professional gear, very solid cool metal feel to it. The pads felt great. The wheel a bit plasticky yes, but overall, looks and feels really pro.

Mind you, I'm a MPC novice ... only tried out 2500 at Turnkey (London shop) this spring, and have been thinking about it since, and also whether to go 1000 or 2500 route. A pro audio pal suggested to go with a model that I would not need to upgrade from later, so 2500 it was.

Played them demo songs with a grin on my face and jammed with the MPC and generally had some great time with it. Did a quick trip to go out and buy a CF card reader/writer for the laptop, and then tried out getting a wav from the laptop to MPC, and that was smooth and easy.

Installed 128MB memory with no hassle, same with 1.21 OS update ... no problemos there. Having been reading mpc-forums and manuals during the wait for the machine this week, so had some sense of what's needed.

Got 5 midi cables coming in/going out of the MPC but have yet to try that out...midi mayhem time later

One thing that's pretty evident with the machine is that everything is at the right place and does the right thing -- I mean the keys, pads, sliders, cursors -- everything has a reason to be where they are and there is no fluff, very good signal/noise ratio to the user interface. (this btw is my main complaint with computers, there is so much stuff on the screen that the attention is drawn to all wrong places from the groove)

Overall Im one happy camper with 2500

I remember getting my first mpc about ten years ago. There should be a children's book. There is alot to learn memedesigner. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to forget you have a very nice tool in your hands. I went away from the mpc a few years back. I had to go back.

Yeah, congrats on your purchase I got mine and had some problems with it first but I got through it so Im happy.

And the mpc 2500 is indeed a nice tool....I was skeptical 2 years ago about buying the 2000xl because the screen was so damn small. It seems like the 2500 was built for me

same here...new user to the mpc. I know this is going to seem like an absurd question, but where do you purchase the memory upgrade, because i'm sure everyone else knows as well that 16 mb ain't cuttin it.

Did you try where you got your MPC? Any music store selling the 2500 or 1000 should have it, like Guitar Center or whatever.

Oh, there's a special promotion from Akai to get a free memory expansion with purchase of a 2500, if it was bought in June or July. Check the news at the top of www.akaipro.com

I love my 2500, but boy do I miss my XL. I loved chopping samples on that thing. The jog wheel, the white backlit LCD, the smaller pixels, and something about the older system and the way you fine-tuned start/stop points. I miss it, but I probably wouldn't go back.

They just changed the promotion from the RAM extension to the CD-M drive for 2500s bought in August and September. US residents only however.

It really depends on how much sampling you plan on doing, or how many programs you want to load up simultaneously. But the general answer is, yes; you'd be rather limited without it.

now, that is making me a little upset... first akai is selling the cd-m25 for a price that is far from real world prices - so i couldn´t afford one till now - and now they are giving them away for free... but not to me since i´m not from the states. what kind of costumer orientation is that?

That's called business. It's just a limited-time promotion to drag additional customers. I paid my 100 bucks for the RAM extension as well and I don't complain. I just wish Akai Germany would offer similar promotions now and then.

And guys, please don't try to turn any little thing into a "what kind of customer orientation is this"-thread. It's sad enough already that certain people feel inclined to post silly pics as their signature...

too bad there is no chance of me getting the CD drive for free also.
