I've been playing around with some loops trying to remove things like Bass etc and thats easier, I run into problems when trying to filter things such as Snares, a friend recently suggest I just chop up my loops into little small parts and just reassemble it, which I'll save for an last resort

I was also wondering how some of the Vocal Samplist like Kanye, RZA, are able to to get Vocals out of the original song without using the A capella, cause Thru the Wire def sounds like he did some good work with just the song itself

This may be a little confusing, but anyone care to take a little time to help me develop my sampling skills

check out my track on soundclick "the look", i chopped up the sample then just reasembled it as u can tell there are still sum parts that are sort of choppy, but it sounds much better than before i chopped it, as far as kanye goes there is a whole thread dedicated to his style in production techniques

He filters out certain frequencies and uses that. The music is still there but you can't hear it because HIS music covers the majority of the original music. Just the high frequency vocals shine through. If he were to play that sample solo you would hear the origianl filtered music in the background.

Looked thru the Kanye Post and picked this out

DandyDon wrote:Nah, not far fetched, but it is the sample of her song that's featured in "Through the Wire". KW just did what he does, tune the pitch of the sample, chop the sample (with, of course, the MPC 8) ), freak it with some EQ, put a hot beat to it, and spit. I know some of you are hating on him now, but I must say that, being from Chicago, I'm glad and proud to see somebody from the Shy finally putting in down. Besides, if he's got top artists seeking his tracks (Jay-Z, Ludacris, Scarface, Janet, and Alicia Keys), he's definitely doing his thing.
P.S.- For you producers hating  on my homeboy, 3 words: "Keep Your Receipt" Hah!

Freedom wrote:Basically How to filter the Sounds in the Akai is Easy.....

To get acapellas from a track the best you can do is focus on the specfic freq of there voice...

Use a BP filter in the MPC BP filter 4+ usually allows enough highs through and enough muffled low filter to get rid of most sounds...

Ive made many songs using this method and before the MPC the process was usually done on the computer which is too time consuming....

P.S.----Peep Some Dean Martin at 45 BPM and ptich down 8%
He uses alot of very good backround women vocals that luch pimp chorus ****

So I'm going to try working with the BP+ Filter and some EQ, should be able to get something reasonable with practice

Another Question, does the Filter Envelope relate to the Filter or is it different I been wondering about that playing with it trying to figure out what it does

Thanks for the responses tanamo00420 Lampdog Prah_860_ I appreciate it :)

The envelope shape you see on shift-6-params? It is for the decay and attack only.

I don't think the filters in the 2k, 2kxl are useful for what you are trying to do. Maybe the 4k filters or PC/MAC. I've not tried the 1k filters so I don't know.

Ya I got the 4k, I gotta get deeper with the filters, or work my EQing

Cause I can drown out the kicks bass and various other instruments, but the snare is causing me to lose hair

BTW tanamo, ya I peeped your song, I was feeling that, nice how ya chopped it as well

If you want to catch JUST the snares and/or drum beats use a "NOISE GATE"

Try something like:

Attack: Fast
Decay: 200ms
Sustain: fast to medium
Threshold: -20db
Release: kinda fast

I use Sound Forge for my Noise Gate and when I play it back realtime it ONLY lets DRUMS through the gate and closes immediately. I chop from there and ALWAYS come out with nice drums. I get them from everywhere. Sometimes I will "STRETCH" those drum samples to make them last a little longer.

To take out the snares, I don't know, never did that one. That would be tricky cause you would leave audio spots of dam near silence in the sample.

Try it and tell me what you think man, cause it NEVER fails for me when I snatch drums from somewhere. I know many cats just listen for a lonely drum and try to chop it out of the sample, I let the PC do the work for me you feel me and it's more accurate that way also. Lemme know what you think.

I would've never thought of doing that. I will definitely be trying that ish out tonight. I'll get back to you on how it works.
