How Do I Keep The Record Function On After My 8 Bar Loop?

Hi guys, i was wondering if somebody could help me out with a few questions regarding recording.



Once my 8 bar loop finished and starts back at bar 1 the record button turns off and i cant record anymore. Is there a way to keep th record funtion going untill i turn it off? Like for example i want to keep my loop playing, but i might not play all the notes on the first take, so i want to finish it on the second take on my 8 bar loop without having to stop the music from playing? Can somebody please explain how i do this and what functions i set in the MPC?



Also, im not able to press record in the middle of my 8 bar loop and record something without having to press stop, and start at the beginning of my loop. Is there a way to press record and record something in the middle of a loop,ect?

Overdub will do everything you want. Record is used better to discard a take and create a new one.

Lets say i set my bars to 8 for a loop. I can record for one loop only then it wont allow me to record once my 8 bar loop finished and restarts back to bar one. I want to be able to record for as many loops as i want without having to press stop, and press record again and start from bar 1. Is there a setting where i can change this so the record button only turns off when i push it instead of turning off when my 8 bar loop is finished and restarts?

No way to do that as far as I know. The work around would be to record your original 8 bar loop and then copy it in linear fashion for maybe 10x. Then record your overdubs on seperate tracks. Then use sequence edit to cut the tracks back to an 8 bar loop using the best 8 bars of each track.
Sometimes I'll use up to 4 or 5 tracks to construct a bass loop or 5 or 6 tracks for a complex synth line or arp. Thats one of the reasons for having 99 tracks per sequence to work with.

You will either have to insert new bars or copy like someone pointed out.

What MPC you using?

Check out the manual, the 3000 manual is pretty straight forward.

Just turn the loop setting to off from the main screen and the bars will extend until you hit stop
