some songs we play live feature some additional vocals. i sampled them, and because i don't want to load new stuff during a performance, i load all vocals at the beginning of the show. if we play 60 minutes, i praise my mpc 1000 for it's 128 mb internal ram every second of it.
but i'm sure that if you use it only at home for single beats, you will never need 128 mb. but feels good anyways.

I rarely get close to 128Mb, but it's not uncommon for me to exceed 16Mb, especially when chopping and editing samples after a long session with the turntable.

Why do these big ballin rappers need the lambo's?
Do they drive at top speed all the time?

For them, it's a preference I guess.

For producers of different styles of music and workflows it might be much needed and/or preference. The live thing and turntable thing are good examples.

Yeah, it depends what you're doing with it. I rarely hit it unless auditioning lots of sample sets, but I mainly use small, one hit samples, MIDI any melodic stuff, and it's all song based, so it's not a problem to load the whole memory between songs during a live show. If you're using lots of loops, have a non stop, flowing set, using multisamples or storing vocals on there, I can imagine it's fairly easy to hit the 16MB

I would easily get up to about 18-19 mb often. I wouldn't have upgraded if it had 20. The thing about 128 is it can make you really lazy. When i first got it, i would start loading too much, the limitation was good for me. 16 was just slightly too limited.

Wait till you start using the Direct Recording functions in OS 3.0
It uses the internal RAM to record to
