MPC1000 memory card slot broken

The CF memory card slot is busted on my 1000. Anyone know of a place that "currently" has these in stock? One of my sons stuck something in the slot and busted a couple of those little metal prongs (cant think of the correct name for those suckers). I called akai, and the dude in parts seemed like he had no idea what he was doing... he said he doesnt know when they will get that part in. If akai doesnt got them in stock, then it looks like I'm screwed.

someone correct me if i'm wrong... but you could always go the hard drive option if you have probs getting the part. at least your machine wont be useless!

if anyone can provide a close up picture of the cf card circuit board, i may be able to tell where to get hold of the connector itself and then you could just change that part.

Get an HD, stop wasting time with CFs. They a whole mess of trouble.

yeah course mate. not promising anything, but RS Components do most part like this. i'm sure there are other compnies too. if you posted a good pic, i'd look into it for you, but like i said no promises i'd get results.

you still need a cf card for potential OS upgrades, no ?

you can put the os .bin file on the hard drive i believe. i may be wrong though. try it and see.

I have tried that and was able to get the bin file on the hard drive, but since I'm running version 1.07, there is no autoload function for the hard drive. Every time I try to reboot the "compact flash card isn't inserted" dialog pops up. I'm assuming full hard drive support wasn't implemented until version 2.0??? Unfortunately my CF drive broke before 2.0 was released, so I'm stuck in the ice age for now.

OS 1.07 does support hard drives, but you have to format it. it will only recognize 2gb until you update to OS 2.1 or above. Try that, but make sure to back up what you have on to your computer beforehand.

Yeah, I have formatted the hard drive and have been using it for a while, but every time I reboot I get that message. Has anyone been able to reboot without a CF card on 1.07?

I don't know if 1.07 allows this, but you can go to the load screen and load the .bin file, and this will re-write the OS for you. This works in 2.x and above for certain, so hopefully it's also OK to do in 1.xx too. Won't take long to find out, so it's worth a try ...

If the upgrade like this works, then you might find that when you reboot the MPC to finalize the OS update, the screen may be blank. For some reason, the OS update sometimes sets the screen contrast to 0. Use shift + data wheel to adjust the contrast to something more sensible.

The bin file shows up on the hard drive, but my mpc is unable to load it with 1.07. Looks like I'll have to try and find a new CF drive or just wait until VST gets them in. Thanks everyone.
