converting mono to stereo

is the conversion the same from mono to stereo the same quality as sampling in stereo. obviously you will lose out on the sounds that are in whatever channel you neglect, but is it the same otherwise? i assume so

I'm not sure if I get you. In multitrack situations each track is in mono. Before you hit the stereo bus of what ever you're using for mix down you hit a panner, default is straight up, but you can choose to pan various tracks to the left or the right.

If you want to convert a mono sound into stereo, I would assume you have to run it through a panner and a stereo bus.

Same quailty, you will end up with the exact same info on both channels so the data will be stereo but your ears will hear mono cause there is nothing specific in either channel to tell your ears they are different. AND it takes up double the memory.
