Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Has anyone had any success installing an internal 750mb zip drive into their MPC2000xl? Please advise.

I was told by one someone that although they purchased the data cord and power cable from akai, they still had problems installing a 250mb internal zip drive into their mpc...it would freeze up on them...something about the operating system. Curious as to if anyone has installed either a 250mb or a 750mb internal zip drive on their mpc; and if so, have you had any trouble with it?

I installed my internal 250mb ZIP all by myself yes I did and it works fine. I got the parts from a local mom and pop PC shop and did it. Had it for a long while and never had any problems with it.

One person I THINK it was "QMAN" said that he had a 750mb working in his 2kxl.

Good looks on the info fellas. So basically, it has been/can be done. But in addition to installing the 750mb zip drive (internal), it will be important to upgrade the internal RAM of the MPC from the standard 2mb to 16mb or 32mb all of the extra information, samples, and other related material that 750mbs will allow to be stored can be supported.

I would up it to 32mbs.......before I put the 750 in.......although that might not have a dammmm thing to do with it

I also put a Zip 250 in myself in the 2kxl and have had no problem. I've considered getting the Zip 750 but then I would also have to get another one for my PC so I can transfer the data and edit samples. Just something for you to think about...

sort of on the same topic - any of y'all ever seen any "kits" - for instance a scsi cd-rom drive and a zip drive bundled for the mpc? I saw something like that on ebay and was wondering if any others have seen simialar kits/package deals elsewhere for purchase..........right now i still only have a floppy drive and i've been trying to save samples but no go on my floppies......

I think that "bundle" is just something someone threw together. You can go to a mom and pop PC store and get an internal 100/250 ZIP and the "y" cable power splitter for floppy 5v/12v and IDE power, ribbon cable (same as for your IDE hard drive in PC) and you'd be good to go for a self installation. My SCSI CDROM and internal ZIP I got seperately.

scsi zip is gonna be second hand cause they aren't made anymore.

Internal zip will be the same ide drive as you would buy for your PC.

His bundles are probabaly overpriced, I haven't seen them, I'm guessing he's trying to cash in on the novelty of a bundle.

$129 starting bid is pretty good to be honest. If I had nothing I would go for it.

bet

yeah its one of those 'buy it now' type sales.....the whole kit & kaboodle is $129.oo - there's really no bidding.

i think i am going to get it - i have nothing and that would help me out a lot.....
