Audio Interface Help

First of all let me say hello this is my first time posting on the board though I have been reading through for a while now.

My Question is about what audio interface to get for my set up. I'm looking to spend about $300. Right now I have a Fanntom Xa and I recently got Logic. I have only been using the fantom as a controller for the vst's. With in the next month I plan on getting a 2500, and I am excited as helll! I was looking at the Alesis Multimix 8 Firewire, it goes for about 259 on zzounds, but I wasn't sure if this would be good for my situation. Is Firewire better than USB?

I hope that this hasn't come up else where. I did search for specifics on interfaces, but i couldn't find anything.

I just took a look at that mixer you're talkin about and it looks pretty hot and tempting.I cant beleive that you only use that Xa for vst's,you should send that beauty to me !I also heard that with the updated version of OS in the MPC 1000,it can do everything the 2500 can do.Just a tip so you'll save a thousand dollarz !I hear about the Mbox 2 all the time,which I hear is good,but itz usb.

no such thing as "no latency" but firewire is better than usb.....

Ok so ill probably go for the firewire then. The Mbox 2 is a little to much for me right now, and the pro tools m-powered doesnt have a firewire interface that works for it, i believe they are all usb.

LOL...I used the fantom as a stand alone synth and I sequence on it and use the internal effects I just cant send it all to the computer yet!!

there are 6 firewire audio interfaces that are compatible with M Powered...

M box is USB if I aM NOT MISTAKEN

M - audio PROJECT MIX I/O has firewire pro tools m powered supported but its prolly out of your pricerange...

firewire vs usb latency is more a channel dependent thing than anything


fw and usb 2.0 are very close as far as latency and number of channels

if ur only sending a few channels (2-4) usb 1.1 is fine and you will not notice a big difference between usb and fw

in the words of PE "DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE!"


personally i use an analog return when tracking to avoid any latency issues
