Save/Load File Destruction

Hi there,
i´ve got a serious problem with my 2500.
upgrades: 128 mb, 80 gb hitachi hd (akai recommended model)
os 1.21

The problem appeared seval times :
- I made several programs and sequences, saved them and turned the machine off.
-next day i started the mpc and tried to load the new programs
but some of the files were completely corrupt ("Wrong File"-Message)
or some other programs couldn´t find the containing samples.

I changed nothing on the hd. i didn´t even touch the machine.
so i couldn´t see any reason for the file destructions.
does anybody have a solution or tip for this problem.

This can happen if you save files to your hard drives root.

Create a folder for each song you create. Save all your programs, sequences, and samples in this folder.

That should do the trick.............

it has nothing to do with that i m afraid.

i ve found that this happens to files that you overwrite.

save incremental versions. also make sure that your hd is formatted from the same OS.

Duplicate this...create a folder as I mentioned ealier. Save your files into that folder. Then reload the files, make changes, and re-save in the folder. Then re-load.

Do you get any corrupted files?

I have the same problem. OS 1.21 & I did reformat the HD after the OS upgrade, I make a new folder for everytime I save a session. I don't overwrite anything. I save the session as a new file then go & delete the old file after everything is saved & this still happens to me. Any more ideas?

I don't have any issues with saving files since I started saving all my projects in seperate folders.

What I do is SAVE ENTIRE MEMORY to a folder. I never have issues..knock on wood....

i have this problem as well.. i cant freakin load up any prgm's cuz it will say that.. then it loads after you try so many times.. than theres no sound.. what i do now is save the beat i make on the memory card and i save the whole file and then transfer the whole file to the computer with usb.. then when im ready to track the beat.. then i just load it back up onto the memory card and load it from the mp.. i just use the hard drive for sound kits and other pgrms.. my sudgestion if you always want 2 use the hard disk.. then save multiple whole files then transfer them to the computer then transfer them to the card when you wanna track them.. its a pain in the ass the way i do it.. it takes like 1 hour just to load and track 8 beats....

no proper solution for this problem.
i saved the programs and sequences in seperate folders ( not in root!)
and changed same the next day. so i overwrote the old files. File destroyed.
i guess this is the problem.

But anyway, did anybody write to akai about this problem?
If the akai guys don´t change this i will give my mpc back.
its pretty stupid to believe that professionals will deal with such a bug
after paying 1600,- €. Even a cheap laptop for 600€ is safer
for a live performance than this buggy 2500.

Also, if you pin-pointed your problem..which is overwriting files..do what the other guys suggested and don't overwrite files. Create a new folder with your updated files, and then delete the older folder. Problem solved.

Has it been reported directly to Akai?? I am not sure.

it s amazing that HUGE bug is still there. it shouldnt have even come out of the factory.

You are totally right!!! I am wondering if the betatesters were using it for cooking instead of producing.
i think its NOT an option to live with this bug. The 2500 is a
simple pc wich should have at least the fundamental functions
of a pc. For instance OVERWRITING FILES without file destruction.

Saving Entire Memory is the answer. This is the only solution for now which was one of the fixes they so called included in a previous os. when you save entire memory it ask to overwrites the old files, it works and that is there way of avoiding the problem.so make sure you delete whatever your not using from the memory before you save. But still you should be able to save any way you want since the option is available. I wish they would fix that shyt.

I just called the akai support (germany) and the guy told me
that they immediatly fix this problem.
I get news about a bugfix next week.

i haven't lost anything since i moved from the mpc1000 to the mpc2500 , i have a hitachi Travelstar 40GB HD , maybe your harddisk isn't 100% compatible. Just a thought.

Anyhow the only strange thing i come across sometimes is that i press a button and i end up in a random menu, like last time i was changing velocity values in step-edit and when i pressed 3 on the numeric pad i ended up in the load-screen , hope i'm not tripping here.

oh and i have a track saved with lot's of short-loops (and i mean really really short loops for synth sound) with real-time pitch-changes and stuff and i get very strange sound drop-outs, wanted to get creative and the damm thing held me back, tsk tsk akai.
