I really want to get the MPC1000 .. but people keep freaking me out saying that sometimes notes and sounds drop out or get cut off.

What's the deal? Is this a user error issue? or is there some sort of problem. I play out live quite a bit .. so I don't have patience for something not playing back.

Sorry if this has been discussed before .. I took a look here and didn't see a topic.

thanks

I haven't noticed anything although i've just had it for a few weeks. But i've used it quite alot and never had any notedropouts or such.

But, yesterday my pad02 started to **** with me and i'll have to get some silicon glue from work tomorrow and fix it. :?

In 1 month I've never noticed anything like that. Don't forget the mpc1000 is 32 voices polyphony (like most others mpc's) that means 16 stereo samples playing simultaneously. If you do a lot of layering you can run out of voices quickly.

Could you explain a little on how it happens?

this is somethign that has been exhaustively discussed previously

basically the issue is that you're running out of polyphony due to

A- poorly trimmed samples (lots of tail silence)
B- set to polyphonic rather than monophonic playback
C- drums in stereo

apply the 3 above to a hi hat repeated at 16th notes (i know i know, machine gun hihats=greasy fingers but this is for the sake of explanation)

if each sample is T>>>>...... long, and the samples hit every 16th note, that's a lot of voices being used up. 2 per hit, and as the tail rides out, there's another 2 on top of 2 on top of 2, etc

this KILLS your polyphony.

solution - sample everyhting in mono unless it MUST be stereo
solution - set samples that overlap to monophonic unless they MUST be poly
solution - trim the tail silence off your samples.

note dropout also occurs after using "move" in 2.1, so if you're using 2.1 don't use the move option

that's basically it. note dropout happened to me when i was a new 1k user, and has happened again and again to new guys coming onto the forums.

if vets don't respond it's most likely cuz the question is tired. it always turns into the new guy being like "yo this mpc is trash, it drops my shit" when the real problem is that when he reached into the gene pool he got a dirty bandaid and an eyeful of chlorine, nothing else

thank you ... I seriously searched through 10's of pages and found NOTHING on the subject .. except a loose reference here and there.

With the way I opperate I see myself having no problems then. I'm confident in trying the 1000.

That's all I needed to know .. won't bother on this forum again. It's a bit too close minded for my tastes to be honest.

yeah probably a good call

it's useful for maybe 10% of the stuff you need to know about your mpc
otherwise, it'll all come from you

To clarify, I think that is the MOVE function in STEP EDIT. I use the MOVE in SEQ EDIT all the time with no problems.

once again ,... thanks for all the help. A friend of mine was having trouble as well. Switching to MONO solved most of his problems.
