Am I completely screwed?

I just spent all my money on a 2500 and I'm broke now. Is there anyway for me to export my beats without me having to buy anymore hardware? Is the only way for me to get a beat onto my PC is if I were to track it out using an audio interface? My laptop only has a mic input and as of now I can't buy any audio interface. Does this mean my songs are stuck in my MPC until I can come up with some cash?

Your computer's mobo should have a line input along with a mic input as you mentioned. But if it doesn't I guess the mic input will have to work for now. You need 1/4" stereo plugs to 3.5mm (the size of a mini headphone) jack, and of course a program to record audio. Try audacity, it's free.

ah i shall sleep alittle better now knowing that...a few dollar cable i can afford...do you think the quality will become really bad if i plug it into the mic input?

I wouldn't be better than the the line input, but if you're strapped for cash then you have no choice, right? You should have a line input on your motherboard. It's the BLUE input jack; here is a picture of a mobo with some typical ports:



see the line in near the top right? look for that on the back of your computer.

They exist, but not all places have them. It's easy to get adapters/converters though.

so as far as the audio interface goes, what should i be looking for? i just need something that will get the job done (don't need anythign fancy) and will work with my laptop

if ya can afford a bit more, get a USB soundcard, like the behringer uca202

plugs straight into your USB, has 2 line ins and 2 line outs............. with quality sound..............the jus use the outs of ya mpc into that baby and ur record into you laptop with a decent quality, plus play back will be better hence the outs on the soundcard

its bout 25 pound so around 50 dollars if ur a yank

Unless you need more than 1 (stereo) channel input, no. The quality of those onboard soundchips isn't always the best however.

An USB soundcard is a good idea. The 2 line ins on the Behringer Rex mentioned are only mono however. It's just like a simple external soundcard. A PCMCIA Soundblaster card would do as well for a laptop, is a little more expensive, but has more features as well.


But anyway, you can always resample the main outs on your MPC, save that as a WAV file and copy it to your computer. No connection or audio interface needed at all.
