wooo it came like an hour ago, and everything seems to work well..I made a quick sequence/loaded up some floppies/tested out zip drive. One thing, a couple of the floppies will begin loading and then say "disk read error" what does this mean exactly.
I heart 2kxl

Dead disks? Dieing drive?
Probably not dieing drive but if it is, don't panic! Replace with card reader or normal PC drive (=a few dollars/pounds!)
As for the topic ...
I'd always bought into the whole MPC idea but never owned one. I bought an MPC1000 about a year ago ... yeah it was ok, got the whole idea but somehow it just didn't gel with me ... I sold it on about 4 months later. But I'd heard people would sell their children for the other models so ...
Well about a week ago a scored an MPC2000 classic for a silly price, couldn't refuse it.
What can I say, feels completely different to the 1k, I'm totally in love with it. It's just so damn old school it hurts. And the pads, a world away from the 1k and the Roland MV8000 btw which I had on lone for a while.
So yeah, I get the whole MPC fuss now. They rock. Gonna get initimate with this 2k, work up a bit of extra cash and move on to the 2kxl.

Good for you..no one should say they don't get mpc's if all they've tried is the 1000. Do you think using the zip drive will be just as good as a card reader?

Nah the zip is definatly not as good, the memory card is alot better.
- Higher capacity cards that cost next to nothing (i got a one gb card for 25 canadian)
- More reliable : Zip disks are known to break from time to time
- Newer technology that isnt going to fade out tommorow.
- Overall just better
Id say the best 2 upgrades for the 2000XL available are the Memory card reader and the 8 outs, id definatly cop the memory card reader.
