Advantages of 2500 over 4k

What are tha advantages of having a 2500? Im not sure what to get. I've campared over and over again. is chop shop & Patch phrase worth getting the 2500?

It works very well, but i never saw 4k running.

Its smaller.
Er.... SD Card maybe?
Um.

The 4k destroys the 2500.

The size is probably the only advantage, but then if you'v got the space then that's not a problem!

Does the 4000 have direct recording?

Apart form that it kills the 2500 pretty much everywhere.

how does the midi grid editing of the 2500 compare to the 4000? Does it even have grid editing?

That Comparison chart is a Joke! Its totaly inaccurate . I know about the 1000 bc i have one and the specs are incorrect. I also know that some of the 2500 specs are wrong as well. I dont know about the 4000 so i cant say whats right or wrong about the chart, but i know not to go by it.

Which exactly would that be?

The 4k is still the king of modern MPC's. Its timing, feel, clean sound, and sampler power is off the chain. When maxed out, its a proper a powerhouse. I love the 50 minutes of stereo sampling, turntable preamp, USB port for pen drives, etc.

But take it from me, i also own the 2500, and love it for its features. Its small, light weight, with the proper mpc pads like the others, it has traditiional mpc timing / groove, and its own nice crisp sound to it. Better value over the 2000xl IMO (which i also use).

Also because it's been around for a very long time, so they've been able to deal with the bug issues since the moment the 4k came out. Whereas the 2500 is still a fairly new unit, Akai's still sorting out the issues. Once they get the 2500 to the place they want it to be, I'm sure people are gonna talk about the 2500 as highly as they do the 4k.

Im sure one day, the 2500 will stand proud, if Nuakai sort out the finer things, like an uneven mpc sitting on a desk

Since you have both machines, How would you compare their midi editing functions? does the grid editing on the 2.5k compare to the grid/graphic editing on the 4k?

The MPC 4000 has a bigger screen, so you see more data at once in the grid edit. The 2500 has a very similar looking grid edit page. You hit the pad and it highlights the event(s). You can enter / draw events, delete them, edit note duration, velocity, etc.

But i dont use my 2500 for midi. Its not miles off.
