Im just guessing here but the mpc500 could be an up to date asq-10 and the mpc3500 could be a downgraded 4k, so a S2500 with a Z4/8 engine. This would seem logical since i think the 1k and 2500 are not up to par with the latest engines ( like the MV8k is also a 44khz/16bit ) but are relatively new products. I can imagine that there's a demand for those 2 configurations from the mpc product line, both a logical perspective regarding the mpc's future development. Its also less of hassle for akai to come with these 2 products since there's no major production overhaul, basicaly adapt an OS's. The mpc500 would have the 2500 sequencer and if they're clever enough they'll keep the pads on it aswell ( asq doesnt have pads ), so the OS would be the same as the 2500 excluding everything on its sampling engine. The 3500 would be the same as th 2500 except the engine would be a 4k, this would imply USB port and AKsys for the mpc and probably different fx ( embedded ). The 3500 would not have HD recording functions, master burner etc since I dont think they would make a replacement model for the 4k, I also dont think a potential buyer would be awaiting such features and make production pur sang instead which would make an 3500 ideal.

So i think this is likely and very much assumable for akai to release as new mpc's and im also thinking this is the last engine for akai to use on mpcs for a long while since they discontinued all the other sampler including planned releases ( boreas ). Also because there's no higher set standard currently, definitly in regards to results achieved 192khz/24bit ( and I believe its 120dB snr which would explain the loud sound ).

I saw a photoshopped image of the thing on --futureproducers.com-- it looked like a fat PSP with 8 pads on it !

Why not? It is smart for them to make a hybrid, low-end, pad controller / mpc lite...to take away some market share from Roland (SP Series) and M-Audio / Korg (pad controllers).

If Nukai cant get it straight with the 4k, 1k, 2.5k, an mpc500 aint gonna cut the mustard, no matter how much they hype it up.

If they DO this one it probably won't have Pads, it'll be alot like the SP 404 I would think.

I meant Big Ass MPC pads, there probably wouldn't be room for 'em.

They could do 3x3 instead of 4x4 pads.

Thet shoulda done the MPC1000 this way so the pads didn't f..k out.
