well.. as a former MV8000 user... For my own personal reasons, i can tell you that the MV beats the MPC in every form possible.. EXCEPT...................the timing of the sequencer.....

No matter what you do, The MV never plays back the beat exactly like you played it. it will start off right, but then as the sequence moves, you start to hear the kicks and snares go off track a bit. takes a bit of time and trickery to get it just right...

some will say the MV is difficult; but as my first drum machine, i found it very intuitive (maybe im just good like that)....

The layout of the sequencer is also dope, but the timing, the loading of samples from RAM, and the way it transfers files, makes it a no go for me.

Im gonng give a shot at the 4k becuz it can open sample editors.... see how that goes. If the 4k sucks, then im back to software forever...

EDIT: keep in mind that roland is known mainly for its keyboards and synthesis stuff.

Trust me when I say that the timing of the MV will be a pain to master. If you have any questions about the MV, hit me up anytime. I owned mines since version 1 and sold it after the version 3...

i had that problem too and thought it was just me!!! You must admit the Pad Assign feature is hot on the 4k. 128 Parts is crazy to........16 parts on the Mv was wack for me, being a 4k user! A few other things i didn't like on the Mv, but that real time timestrecth and audio tracks was hot!!!!

I never got the big problem with the 16 part vs 128. The mv seq is built like a most keyboards are. WHen it comes to making a beat im yet to see anybody make anything good that would take up more that 16 parts better yet who would ever need to use 128 parts.

yep... and the MV also has a bass synth built in. Theres alot of other features too... too many to name, and alot of it is overkill.... but it def has more features than a 4k.

The only thing the Mpc 4k has over the mv is its sequencer. Roland didnt get the timing of the sequencer as tight as it should have. and it can be frustrating trying to get it to work right... other than that, i say it $hits on any mpc...

that makes no sense what your saying... but to clarify what im saying:

go take a look at the newest scratch magazine (on page 99) and read what dude wrote about the MV8k and the MPC 4k.

Then go read all my posts on this site, mvnation and futureproducers, and u will see that I have been saying the same thing since version 1 of the MV... it has the same features and more than the MV, but the sequencer swing and timing is very lacking...

what i'm saying is................what good is all the extra features if you don't have to most important thing working right. i had the MV, and loved the real time this and that, but when i made a beat it felt off. Not only compsre to the 4k but to an ASR-X also. It's just off. It still is a nice machine, no doubt...............but not worth the extra work.

I'm puzzled...how will extra work improve the timing a machine? If it's bad it's bad.

By streetbeats Mon Aug 07, 2006 9:26 pm
i don't know i guess if you play bad? lol

your right street, and your saying exactly what I was trying to explain

anyway, im getting sick of co-signing for these companies... i never get a cut of the profits and the prices are too high anyway...

cant wait till they perfect this software MPC.... http://homepage.mac.com/seishu/ssworks/rs16x/rs16x.html

MV sequencer is wack huh?? That's all I have to hear to make my decision on which machine I'd choose. I have the classic 2000 and I'm too use to the solid sequencer of my machine and I don't want to go backwards.

I know this salesman @ Guitar Center swearing by the MV. Trying to sell it to me and sh*tting in the MPC empire  I'll admit he had a good sales pitch but he was a somewhat of a new jack to the buying equipment and that was his first major piece of equipment so I couldn't take his word too serious. I'll say this again. Once you experience the sequencer on the MPC you will never want to have anything less. The MIDI response is excellent.
