mpc or new computer?

hi guys, first time post
i need your opinions here..
should i buy a brand new computer... a fast one which will allow many vsts or should i by an mpc which would cost twice as much?
im very interested in the mpcs cause i know a lot of good music has been produced using them. big fan of Shadow and some underground hip hop....rjd2, quasi.... but yeah, mostly into electronic music
just that the mpc is so expensive but if i bought one id want a good one, i mean, i wouldnt want to be like shit the mpc1000 was good but i have to ugrade. so yeah ive pretty much got it in my head that i should have a 2500 cause ive been reading this board
how is the learning curve? will it make sense to go from writing computer music which is very open ended, to using one piece of kit
how could one write great music, using such a small screen. so yeah.... how easy is it to program an mpc slash mpc 2500. lets just say i write electronic music ranging from techno, house, ambient, and id like to try my hand at breakbeat and drumnbass
i really like the idea of not using a computer to write music,

I like hardware more than FUNKY FRIGGIN and FRICKIN computers anyday ! Get the MPC.

If you plan on composing your own music, and not being a sample based producer, than you really need to get the computer, and a nice midi controller. The mpc is more based towards loopin samples and drum patterns and I wouldnt recomend it for "writing your own music" as you put it.


You also mentioned your gonna be making electronic , and the mpcs are based torwards hip hop...


Also, just so you know, with the new OS's out, the 1000 is VERY close to being a 2500, there is not really anything that would justify paying more for a 2500. Get the PC, with a great soundcard and youll be set...

^^^ untrue .. it depends on the person utilizing the MPC .. i use my MPC
as a sequencer mainly .. my MPC sequences a korg trinity , pc (running reason) and a XV2020 , yes it samples but i mostly import samples that have been already perfected on the PC ...

the best advice is to travel down to your local music store ....
play with an MPC ... play with reason ... play with a few different
hardware and software pieces before you buy .. they all have there own feel ..it will be up to you which one feels best for your type of music production ..... dont rush into spending your money ... the music isnt goin anywhere.

research .. read then repeat the process until you can make an informative decision...

If you have the 1000, why not master that one?

As wonderful as the mpc is, I'd say the computer.

But, I'm totally biased and already have and dislike using computers as a centerpiece.
If you already have an MPC though, the choice should be easy......a PC (PC, obviously since you said Sonar).
