Have any of you guys ever been able to create some realistic drum sounds ( and when I say realistic I mean as close to acoustic as possible, not 808 or 909 sounds) using synthesis??

How'd you do it and what did you use??

Right now I have Waldorf Attack and I really want to put it to use.

Peace.

There are a few articles that I've read online about drum and percussion synthesis. Learned quite bit. You can find some of them at:

Also, I copped a book sometime last year or the year before called "User's Guide to Sound Synthesis w/ VST Instruments" by Simon MillWard. Good book. Should have some detailed stuff about the Waldorf too.

Peace and good luck.

Yeah, I actually found that same website when I did a google search. I've read article one by Gordon Reid but I really don't want to waste my time learning to do this if it won't lead me to my intended goal: Being to create my own banging ass drums. If it's just going to end up being these electronic sounding ish, then I don't think I'll bother.

But the Reid articles sure are educational. I would suggest anyone wanting to find out about creating their own sounds to check 'em out.

I'll probably check out that book you recommended. Sounds right up my alley.

Drums are easier to sample than synthesize, especially realistic drums. No comparison. The amount of work to get real sounds out of synths is ridiculous and kinda missing the point.
