Disk read error and drive is new

When I turn on the mpc2000 the rec, over dub, play,, undo seq,after,16 levels,full level, and A,B,C,D lights stay lite. On the screen it will show mpc2000 boot rom v 1.00 then it will come up DIsk Read Error!!. I have a startup disk 1.72. I changed the disk drive and downloaded a new disk. Any ideas here. Can the disk drive cable be changed out? Is this starting up right(up until the disk error that is)? This should work with 1.72 correct?

Anyone know any places to repair these?

i jus had this problem myself. If you can, take ur mp apart and see if it is the drive and the way its hooked up. I bought a drive a while back from overstock.com that cost maybe 15-25 w/ shipping and handling. If it is not the drive, download a new o.s. from www.akaipro.com and try that. if it doesnt work, then u'll need a new drive
