Layering Snares

When I layer 2 snares over one another, I'm getting this problem where the pitch changes with some of the hits. Below I uploaded a 10 second MP3 of the problem I'm having. If you listen, you'll hear that the pitch of the snare changes on the third hit. This happens when I go into program mode and add 2 snares to a pad, as well as when I assign the second pad to a separate pad and record over the other snare. Anyone know how I can fix this? I also should mention that I have it on full level when I record the sanres so it's not that the velocity is causing the problem.

Sounds like phasing to me. This happens with samples which sound very similar because the MPC does not trigger the samples accurately down to very sample, and when timing shifts slightly the overlapping waveforms produce additional frequencies.

One way around this would be to use two samples whose sounds are not as close together, or modify one of them a little...maybe even shift one of the samples slightly by adjusting its start point.

Or you resample the layered samples to one single sample.

hmmm this seems kinda wierd cause i mean everyone layers their drums to get them the way you want...is this only a problem on the 2500 or do thers have this problem?

as far as I can remember my 60 also do it like this. so the only way to get it down like u want is to resample the layered drums, and work with it as a single shot.

yea, I think it is phasing too. Try changing the pitch of one snare just a bit. That should do.

The 2000 XL does the same thing as the 2500, it phases with two samples layered. My 4000 handles it pretty well though, with no phasing issues.

same waveform or type of snare will work against itself causing it to phase/flange sound. try using the second at a lower level or slightly diff pitch. just toy with it man itll come out tight

Panning will help as well. I don't know if you can pan individual layers though.
