midi keyboard that plays multiple sounds at once

im looking for a good keyboard to link to my mpc but when i play and record into the mpc i can only hear one sound. it dosent let me have strings then swich tracks in the mpc and add a base is this normal or am i doing something wrong by the way i use a casio LK-40

Are you switching the sounds on the keyboard when you are switching the tracks on the mpc?

Is the keyboard multitimbral?

on channels 1~4 only (MIDI IN/OUT jack: 5 part multi-timbral (ch.1-4, drums ch.10)

this is a very novice keyboard homie ...
you will need to upgrade your board / sound module
to take full advantage of the MPC
i would recommend another sound module that
has a bit more to offer you if your going to stay
produceing music on the MPC.

have you looked into soft synths .. that board is a great controller
but lack a little to much to stand alone with a MPC..

^^ he may be man .. but with only 5 part multimbral theres not
much growing room

That sucks then, I would need more than just 5 parts if I were doing that right there. Like you said, not much room to grow.

Try an old Roland JV series module...Most if not all I believe are 8 parts multitimbral....

should i invest in getting a sound module or new keyboard first

get an older module first....learn it's functions...With newer gear, especially advanced pieces, if you don't know what you're doing, you won't know where to start...You can't run if you don't know how to walk...

the keyboard is a fair controller but as a sound module its a definite
no-go .. i would suggest look around and find an inexpensive
sound module (something under 600 USD if possible)
or look into the your local music stores to see if they have a
scratch and dent section..

sounds like your really new to music production i wouldnt suggest
spending your money on anything too advanced ..

the best advice of all is "read" there are a million pieces of
musical equipment and as you can already see not all are worth
the time to explore ..

do a bit more research on the subject then report back with your
findings
