i just got my 4000 and basicaaly no more money for the keyboard i want, so is it possible to midi dump the sounds from a triton or phantom or motif instead of sampling each sound one by one?

why would you sample your sounds .. why not use the synths outs and play them via midi .. and yes you can use sysex dumps ..

as i said in the post i dont have a keyboard just the 4k and wanted the sounds from those and many other synths. so i figure if i could midi dump the sounds i could have as many different synths at my beck n call. but it is possible now i know ... also could u explain what sysex does and will it transmitt all the sounds at once and will they sound like the keyboard i dump from or do i have to tweek or set loop points so it hold the sound as long as i hold the key...........

is it my misunderstanding ... but you have none of thouse keyboards ?? (the phantom only comes in keys)..

now if its hard to get the understanding from my post that i dont have a keyboard im sorry but i plain and simply states i only have a 4000 NO KEYBOARDS i just want know can i midi dump the internal sounds to the 4000 from other keyboards so i could have the sounds in the 4000...i will be going to some friends that have keyboards to get the sounds. i just wanted to if i could dump them or would i have to sample them one at a time.....wheres mpc tutor when u need him??????????????/

Hi!

Nope, you can't "MIDI dump" sounds from a Motif, Triton or whatever to the 4K. If you want the sound of one of these keyboards in the 4K you will have to sample them. The 4K is, after all, a sampler.

The reason is quite simple, MIDI doesn't carry any sound information AT ALL. It's just notes, and descriptions on how these notes will be played. Nothing more. The Motifs and Tritons of this world have large amounts of resident sampled sounds that make up their programs/patches. You can't just "dump" this information over to the 4K, 'coz it doesn't have these resident samples, it has another hardware architecture all together. Sure, you could sample the raw waveforms that make up a Motif or Triton meticously to reconstruct the sounds, but even then it wouldn't be quite the same thing...

Anyway, if you're in need of some nice instrumental samples for your 4K, head over to http://www.hollowsun.com, they have a large collection of nice, free soundbanks for the S5/6000, Z4/8 and 4K. Mostly vintage gear, but some usable electric pianos and "updated" sounds too. Check it out.

i was asking cause i used to dump samples from my mpc2000 to my s3000 when i needed to play them like synths and wanted to know if the 4k had the same capabilities. and as far as i know you can midi dump sounds that support it i use to midi dump from my pc so i know midi can dumo sounds but thanks anyway . does anybody else have an answer

Correction: there's an old standard called "MIDI Sample Dump" or something, but this is not something you can do from a Motif or a Triton, simply because you don't have access to the basic waveforms/samples within these keyboards.

Think about it: if you could just transfer all the sounds from a Motif or Triton straight to your sampler (and it sounded the same), why would anyone buy one of these keyboards in the first place? You could just borrow/hire one from a store over the weekend, dump the sounds and take it back on Monday...

When you buy one of these keyboards, you're paying for a sound playback device: the developers have done all the sampling, looping, mapping, ADSR, filter and FX settings for you, and put it into a case with or without keys and with some D/A converters. All of this (and many other things) make up the "sound" of a keyboard, and cannot (easily) be replicated by a sampler - even though you can get pretty close, providing that you have access to the exact samples and settings that the developers have.

Considering all of the formats the 4k can import in terms of sample CDROM's there just might be sample CD's (Triton,Phantom,etc.)available to use with your MPC. Do a search on Google. Maybe the 4k will eventually be able to natively import these keyboard formats.

Yeah, just load libraries from CD-ROMs with all the samples and programs. On top of MPC2KXL and MPC3K data, the MPC4K reads AKAI S3K, S5K/6K, Roland S700, EMU III and EMU 4 libraries. Ya'll find all the synth sounds ya need.
