When Making A Sampled Beat, I Was Wondering What You Guys Do 1st, Like, Whats Easy For You Guys 2 Put Tha Beat 2 Gether , An, Do You Guys Ever Use 1 Sample 4 Tha WHOLE BEAT...This Is What I Do...


1. Get The Sample
2. Put Tha Kicks In It
3. Claps
4. Snares
5. Extra Sounds...

See, Evereyone tells me i do mine weird, whats the ways that you guys start out when you guys are putting a beat together? im very interested to know??

ps. is their a site, that tells you step by step, on what is actually needed in a beat? Thanks

a beat is what u make it, sometimes u do drums first and then let the drums play while u hunt for a sample...(if u have a mixer u can monitor (listen) ur turntable or whatever u are using to sample while ur drums are playin.

others like to find the sample, loop it...or chop it up accordingly to their taste and then add the drums (sometimes this is less mechanical becuase u can ride the vibe of the sample rather than making drums 1st that might not compliment the sample u are using. However if your using synths, i like making the drums 1st...call me crazy but u can fine tune ur synth to match ur drums like no tomorrow.

mess around with the time shifting function in the WINDOW of your TC, use the swing of this machine, it'll give ur tracks maad groove.

made a beat liek a compser would make a track, with intros...variations, pick ups and slow downs and possibly outros, this will catch the listener waaaay faster than if you were to make a constant no talent loop.

LEARN UR MACHINE!!!!! I hve a 2000 XL MCD and a MPC 1000 BK. Both are very different machines that have different functions, that can be utilized differently...make sure you kow what every window in your MP does...hehe, well mabey not every one.

Make sure the beat is catchy in the first 5-10 seconds...otherwizw heads are quick to skip it without knowing that it get reel dope later on.

Try to incorporate synths over you samples, a synth can give a beat a certain atmosphere, soething as little as a single note in the background of your beat can really increase the feel of the tune (cant be a cory synth, has to comliment the beat).

well depends on the sample man. i usually start with a sample first and build my drums around it.
sometimes i start with my kicks first, sometimes my hats, sometimes my snares.

There is no wierd way to make a beat. You go about making it the way you want and are comfortable with.

I use to have a co-worker that COULDN'T work a mouse the standard way.

She used it backwards with the cord pointing toward your hand. Using it that way she was fast and controlled everything faster than normal I think. She was flawless working with documents and everything UNTIL you ask her to use it the traditional way, lol.

Whatever works for YOU, then do it.

A beat is what u make it, if we tell you what we do...it be like tellin you our sound....make your own sound...everyone approaches samples differently...make your own choice...

I pick a sample and match the drums to it
records drums
records the melodie samples to it

after this basics I work in a circle, extra sounds, pick other drums, bass, synths etc

first thing i do is smoke some kill bud.

you were wierd for listening to you friends

whatever the way you feel like doing it , do it.

well the jury has just spoken... go with what u do best.

don't forget to use the "tab/note repeat knop" for ur hihats!...
