MPC1000 memory card slot broken

upload a picture, and i'll have a go at finding the connector for you. if it's just the fact the pins are bent or broken, then you'll only need to replace the connector (which should be a standard size), not the whole drive. you'll just need to take the drive unit out, and de-solder the old connector, and replace it with the new one.

Here are the pics of the circuit board. The first is a close up of where the CF drive connects with the board.



Second is the same view zoomed out.



This is where the CF connects to the main board where the RAM is located.



If you look to the left of the row of connectors on this one, you'll see one of the connectors is slightly sticking out. It has completely been pulled from the circuit board (no contact). I hope this can still be replaced.

oooh, looks quite tricky. they are surface mount parts, which are quite difficult to solder by hand. if you have good soldering skills, you should be ok, but it's better to get a pro to do it.

RS components do do a selection of these parts, but knowing akai, they'll have used a slightly different design to tie you into getting a replacement from them. i'd really need the part in front of me to ensure i was getting the correct part. have a look yourself on their website, and see if you can find a match.

Thanks mr modnar. My soldering skills are ametuer at best, so I think I'll just wait for VST. Who knows how long that will be.
