Exactly. So many rappers use similar lines, same lines, similar concepts, same concepts. So if you use a sample that's been done, it's fine, change it up, make it different. Or when you hear a beat that's paying homage to the original, that's cool with me. I think it's dumb when people purposely go out and find used samples, purely to outdo the original, or to copy the original though. Too many people think they own a sample because they used it. One of the things i hate is when I use a sample and somebody like me, with no career in music tells me they used it first. Yeah, you and 10000 other people.

Answer to the original question is YES I get discouraged and it really sucks when you grow attached to a sample and make a beat with it and sorta honor that song and make it sound like a remix of the original while at the same time make an average rapper get open off it cuz of how it translates into the hip-hop/rap world as well. But when some amateur beat maker comes and just listens to the worst part of the sample and makes it a wack beat that everybody knows and likes already, it becomes impossible to get them to appretiate what you've done with it even if you did it first and better because the recognizable tones are already in there and its enough for them to say "ooh you did this beat like "so and so" did I feel you", "NO you don't feel me! I was first and this is a masterpiece". Unfortunately "masterpiece" is all subjective so its all about who does it first OR who gets it played more. Madlib had an album out recently that made me jump behind the DJ's table when I heard it to find out who stole my beat! My boy said "Madlib is mad ill for even thinking of that yo" I said "you heard that sample before!" He's like "when??" I said "8 YEARS AGO in my uncles house when I PLAYED IT FOR YOU!!"... "Oh word I forgot yo.." Truth is that he absolutley loves Madlib and thinks that Madlib can do no wrong, even though Madlib did absolutely NOTHING but run the whole song with a little effect on it. Some rapper played me a track that J-Dilla did for him and I'm like "nice, but listen to that beat 5 times better" He says "How did you get that"... "Simple, I only made it in 1994 from my favorite 80s record!"

My point is that as you get into this stuff more, it becomes about whos name is more recognizable when they use the sample. Example: the Black Moon beat and Just Blazes P.S.A. What can I do when I like Black Moon's song but 50 trillion people like P.S.A. enough to hop ship. They mostly suck Just Blaze so bad and absolutely love his beat no matter what happens anyway. It sucks because I know you had plans for that beat for soo long and yet that person came across it probably by accident and totally screwed it up in like 2 hours with corny software. Well good luck with the whole thing and don't let it get to you like it gets to me, you end up with heart condition.
