Slicing and Patchphrasing.

I just copped a 1000 about 3 days ago. Im actually a very longtime computer based musician and so this machine is a little different for me but not too bad.

My question is this:

When u use the slice feature in TRIM mode and then you assign it to have however many regions and then adjust the slices and make a prgm - is there any way to make the samples export as stereo slices instead of mono and still have the automatic new prgm choice cuz thats gotta be one of the most retarded features i ever seen?....The slice feature is almost rendered useless by only allowing mono samples afterwards....I feel ripped off when i pay a cool grand and it cant even give me stereo slices....

The only way i found to work around this was to go to EDIT and then choose EXTRACT and make a new sample, which isnt that bad - but waaaay more time consuming....

Is there another way to achieve this or is this it and im **** basically?

Unfortunately using the slice function always converts to mono, with the left channel used. wack aint it

For a 1000 dollars Akai needs to get on the ball and put more money into development and prgming.....IMO, thats a really hindering feature along with the load/save language and and how the machine is so tedious in that area.

Someone just tell me it gets better with time cuz im trippin out thinkin i might have made a mistake by coppin one of these!.....I wonder if i should have just copped some mackie monitors instead for that much cabbage!?.....

to say the least,no it might not get better for Akai product, Look out MV8000!!! . The Good thing about the MPC's is that the Sequence is the heart and soul of the MPC and yes being able to program drum and samples along with midi sequences.As for as recording samples in stereo, and working with only mono, is still a plus. jus use your creativety

sample both sides of the stereo field as mono

little more legwork, but if it's worth it that much to you, ya gotta do it
i have a feeling that stereo slicing is in the next mpc1000/2500 upgrade, as well as in JJ's new os

Word, well if they do that in the OS upgrade then im straight, but little things like that really hinder the creative process IMO.....THanks for the responses.

Oh i forgot...This may need to posted as a seperate thread but i was wondering how most of you guys go about forming your arrangements etc?

Wen i use reason the process is super fast and i usually drop a 8 bar loop and then paste that usually twice for a verse and once for a chorus with mutes and all that and then add a instrument or sample for the next track.

I understand you can do the same thing basically on the mp but its a little different....

SHould i be creating a new sequence for each part? - For example; Samples-Sequence 1, Drums-Sequence 2, etc? - and then form them into a song in song mode?......

OH AND MOST OF ALL - CAN U PLAY (2) SEQUENCES AT ONCE????

research SONG MODE in the manual.

it is your friend, well, the manual AND song mode are your friend.

copy that main sequence out a bunch using the window key and then add stuff to each sequence and compile them in song mode.

I usually have different sections set up as different sequences. So the verse would be sequence 1, chorus is sequence 2 etc etc

as soon as i get mtc sync, my songs are just gonna be 1 loooong sequence, most likely.

however, what i do now (and i like it a lot) is set up 1 8 bar sequence, make it. make the next. and the next. and the next.

in song mode, it looks like this

seq1
seq2
seq3
seq4

invariably. i'm a neat freak when it comes to that.

i moved from reason, too. used to think "damn, i could do this so much faster on reason" when i first got the mpc.

not anymore. working in reason without extensive control surfaces is like building a ship inside a bottle. the mpc is like cutting down trees and building a life sized ship.

i just got my mpc like 2 weeks ago and once you learn the sequence into song mode its really fun. Much more enjoyable than computer clicking. It was frustrating at first but once i got os 2.1 and blue box going its very fun. I was wondering if you put a stereo sample in blue box and put it into a program, does it stay stereo or does it get converted to mono?

I'm for real a Christian. I don't come on the MPC forum trying to preach but here are some verses that support why I have this name, and what the name of Jesus means to me, and also the word Glory means, "A higher state of existance, or exalted above". Though I make many mistakes I believe the Blood of Christ is what santifies and cleanses of sin, and all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God. (Romans 10:9-10). Once you become a Christian and recieve Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. You no longer fall short of the Glory of God, and even though you may sin, they will be covered on judgement day and you will be able to enter heaven.
