i had been using a roland DR-5 for all my 808 tones. i bought an mpc1k thinking the tones i could download online would be far superior to the DR-5. turns out, i was more attached to the DR-5 tones than i thought and found the snares and hats were integral to the songs. so i sampled the actual DR-5 tones onto the MPC.
but now when play the MPC back to back with the DR-5 the MPC sounds more thin, and less "meaty" than the DR-5.
the DR-5 hats sampled onto the MPC don't cut as well as they do on the actual DR-5.
it's hard to explain, but it's as though the MPC adds it's own color to the tones.
has anyone noticed this?
when i sampled the DR-5 i recorded them into protools and then dragged and dropped the wave files onto the MPC. could going through protools be why they sound thinner?
