Problems with song mode (MPC 2000xl)

Just got my mpc 2000xl and ran into a problem.

In song mode, I have song 1 (2 sequences combined) playing once (4bars) followed by song 2 (same as song one *plus the bass which was muted in song 1). When I convert the 2 into a combined song, the first song plays without the bass, and after the forth bar song 2 comes in without bass as well, although the bass was only muted for song 1.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Or if there is a more effiecient way to go about song making?

The reason Im combining sequences into songs is because when I record my 4 bar drum sequence, I record the first 3 bars in one sequence, and the last bar separately because different. Its a more effiecient method for me.

instead of combining sequences to make one large sequence just create the whole song in song mode.

i typically create one main sequnce with most of the sounds i'm using and then i copy that sequence out 5-10 times and then start muting stuff in each of the new ones to create a progression. then put those sequences in the order that i want in song mode. Once i have the main progression rolling i will go back to each sequence and delete the drums and record them in however i want on each sequence to give it some variation. once you get this far you will start hearing other things that you want to add in. go ahead and add/remove stuff where necessary.
Then i record into my hard disk recorder directly from song mode when i'm done. this process is VERY time efficient for me and i can hear exactly what i want to hear whenever i want to hear it. Song mode is wonderful. how much easier does it get than just making a list of the sequences that you want to play in order and then auditioning them instantly?


whew, but i can't remember how to get around that mute thing when you convert a song to a sequence because i never do that. i'd imagine that it has something to do with the tracks that you have the individual sounds on in each sequence
