Alesis Micron users?

what up fellow beat enthusiasts. just wondering if anyone here makes or has made any basslines with the Alesis Micron.

i'm looking into purchasing one for this purpose but i wanted to get other opinions first.

I had a Micron. I thought it was a great sounding synth with a terrible programming interface. If you have the space, and the extra cash, go for the Ion instead, if you want the Micron's sound, since they have more-or-less identical DSP engines.

The Micron has a great array of different filters, including models of the Arp filter (complete with distortion when you overdrive it, very nice), the Moog Ladder, the TB303 and many others, and the oscillators provide a variety of waveforms and synch/FM options. The modulation matrix is also very extensive.

For bass sounds, it can get super fat.

However, for me (and you could have a different feeling about this) the limited screen and four knobs that provides your view into and control over the Micron's great insides was just too much of a pain to deal with. The Ion has much better control; bigger screen, many more knobs. In the end, I sold my Micron and went for a Novation X-Station, since I needed something small, and the X-Station provides a nice portable k-series synth and an audio interface for laptop mayhem (and it's also a littered with knobs and faders for programming the synth and controlling software) However, the X-station's synth is not as flexible as the Micron/Ion, by a long chalk.

Every now and again, I keep thinking how nice it would be to get the Ion, or if they made an Ion rack ...

No problem. I would recommend that you go and fiddle with one at a music store, if possible (in SF, I'm sure it is), and see what you make of the interface yourself.

You can download the manual from alesis' website (look in the support section) - that'll give you an idea of how to get around the thing, then you can try it and see what you think. Maybe you've got more patience than I have

it depends what kind of bass ur lookin for im guessin the micron has electronic kinda bass ....try messin with other keyboards too ...im not sayin dont get the micron its a tiny beast haha it got some nice synths i really like it , but try what ever fits u and go for it .

i have a micron also, but never really got deep into it.
