High;

This isn't meant to ba a flame or anything like that. Why do you want to waste an MPC 4000, probably the most powerful stand alone music production tool in existance, by farming out most of what it was designed to do to a general purpose office machine running an interactive cartoon?

Hi!

You'll need to activate Midi Clock on all outputs of your Midi interface (found in the Options menu - Song Settings - Synchronisation Settings - Midi - Transmit Midi Clock) inside Logic; note that this is saved with the song settings, so set this up correctly in your Autoload file if you want it to be activated every time you start a new song.

Make sure you have a Midi lead going from your Midi-interface to one of the MPC4Ks Midi inputs, and activate Midi Clock sync from the synch item in the Main Screen.

Be prepared to make some offset adjustments in Logic if your MPC sequences and the Logic song are of different lengts.

trkkazulu: While I agree that the MPC is an extremely powerful production tool, Logic (or ProTools or Cubase or whatever one might be using) is by far a more suitable mixing solution, IMHO. I suppose that is what r.j. will be using the synch for. :)

Cheers,

Any idea why the groove (i.e. the swing setting & my own event placement) in the sequence 'straightens out' when synced from Logic (which I use as my master) on my Mac?

This is really bugging me right now, since the way MPC's grooves things is one of the main reasons for getting one. :(

yah i'm having problems with cubase doing that same "straightening out" on pc (sx2)

I know there's a way to use mpc as master, I just don't knwo how to get it to work. If I can do that then it shouldn't be aproblem and cubase should jsut start recording when I hit the button on the mpc (versus hitting record in cubase and the mpc starts playing).

anybody know how to do this?

At the risk of sounding like a total bastard, it would be much simpler to eliminate the computer and get on with producing your track. The whole point of the MPC4000 is to provide the producer with a rock solid "music production center" a dedicated music production environment. The machine exists just so that people don't have to waste time on what you're trying to do.

What is it that you are trying to do that you think you can't do with the MPC alone. Maybe we can help you get it together here.

I shouldn't of asked in the 4000 forum since I have an MPC1000 but when someone mentioned they're having trouble with syncing I thought I'd ask. I bought the MPC1k purely to benefit from expressing myself better on the pads & the way these machines groove but not as a main work station - that's what my Logic is for. Sorry trkkazulu! 8)
I would of thought the same would apply whatever MPC you have.
Cheers

The mpc4000 doesnt have audio tracks and advanced mastering tools like logic have. The MPC4000 is cool for sequencing drum beats and such but its lacking way to much features to be called an all in one production tool
Syncing to logic is just a great way to combine best of both worlds.

Aint it easy to import the midifiles from logic into the MPC4000 and arrange it from there???

"The mpc4000 doesnt have audio tracks and advanced mastering tools like logic have."

Logic has "advanced" mastering tools, and the MPC4000 doesn't have audio tracks? I suggest you take a closer look at your MPC. As for "advanced mastering": do you mean advanced as in "easy to use" or do you mean as in "more efficient" or is it just a matter of more tools? If you mean "easy to use" would that be because of the useful "mastering presets" or do you mean that you can "see" all of the knobs and buttons in Logic and they are easier to operate than on the MPC? If you mean "more efficient" are you saying that Logic running on your home computer is more stable and quicker than the MPC or that your finished cds sound better after being "mastered" in Logic than they do mastered in the MPC? Or does Logic offer something other than eq, compression and delay that you are accustomed to "mastering" with?

My point is this: after you've honestly answered these questions for yourself, ask yourself this: what is it that i think that i need to do to my or my client's production that i don't know how to do in the MPC? Let us here on the list know and we'll do our best to help you out. That's what the list is here for.

MPC4000 doesnt have eqing,, so you have to mix your tracks on an external console.. And when you do that,, you need multitrack recording options to record all that shit so you can make a final track of it. Those things arent included in the MPC4000, other then that its a great machine, dont get me wrong.

Everyone works in different ways - some use the MPCs as there main work horse, others like myself use MPCs for creating beats only.

I'm thinking of getting rid of my 1k & getting a 4k for a number of reasons.

One of the reasons are that MTC & SMPTE comes as standard (on 4k) rather than just relying on Midi Clock. Doesn't anyone use SMPTE for syncing with there Mac's as it's more accurate? (it's not just for syncing video)

it seems alot of u people are wasting your 4000s if your just using it for drums and phrases take it back and get the 1000. you have at your hands a complete all in one digital audio production station ...i myself only have a 4000 and cheap midi controller. but with all my sample library i have a d50 ,novation bass station,m1 and many others all with in my 4k all it takes is some work.. i will probaly never buy another over priced keyboard again, ill let me friends buy them and ill sample the sounds, also buy up all the sample cd this sight is sell and the only computer is my mac 9600/233 for use with ak.sys(well i do run qbase for recording but never a softsynth or sampler the 4000 is all i need.... if you u need more your probaly just gear junkies with money to spend

USE MTC for locking to an external source like Logic and the such. I do my writing and arranging on the 4k then when it's time to go to "tape" I lock up the 4k (as a slave) through MTC with my Yamaha AW4416 and lightpipe all the 4k tracks to it. Works like a charm. You could do the same thing with Logic or PT and use it like a tape recorder for recording and mixing.
