DRUM CHOPPING TIP

it may be common knowledge, but pad 15 is crucial for chopping one shot drum samples to as short as possible without cutting off ANY of the good stuff. make sure the end field is hilighted in the trim window, if you hit pad 15 and hear ANY click or sound, then the sample has already been truncated into the wave, even if it doesnt appear to be. if you dont hear anything, then use the wheel or the slider and cut backward while playing pad 15 continuously until you hear a faint sound, thats where you stop. I cut some samples in half by removing dead space...just remember...WHEN CHOPPING, USE YOUR EARS, NOT YOURS EYES!!!

all pad 15 does is play from where it is. if you are trimming the end point it will play from the end point and if you are trimming the start point it will play from the end of the start point. pad 14 will play to which ever one your trimming. you just have to use the pads when you need each. also 16 plays the sample in full and 14 loops the sample.

but, have u ever took the time out to read the manual? Cause there has to be alot of basic stuff ur missing out on cause ur not reading the DAMN manual!

I'll give u kudos on one thing though... it's very true that u should trust your ears and not the screen. Remember that alot of older samplers didn't have screens that showed waveforms, u had to go by ear.

thats defintely the truth. a screen will not tell you if itll loop properly. only your ears can tell you if it sounds good, not your eyes.

I must use those top four pads when I trim. Thanks for the reminder.

I have the 2000 in my head but not at my hands. It really makes use of the pads triggering the one sample in trim screen. I think a new OS could make use of 12 of the pads to do different things.

Does the 1000 have this feature?

actually buddy, i have read the manual. and i know that this is basic, but as i read the majority of the posts on this forum i see that most common mpc knowledge is not really common. I never said that the function of pad 15 was a new discovery that i stumbled upon while bumbling aimlessley on the mpc. and by the way, there is not a lot of basic stuff i'm missing out on, you can google me and check my credits and figure that out. i was merely giving a trinket of information for less experienced users. and furthermore, if my advice was soooo basic, then there wouldn't be sooo many UNDERTRUNCATED drum kits being sold on websites and disks and floatiing around the internet.

I read my manuals. Just haven't made it through the 2500 one though. I know most of the functions having owned a 2000 so I've been going to it only when necessarry. So I'm kidding. You guys can relax.
