that is no reason or explanation for that reason,,,,,but my reason for sampling stereo...is to preserve the width of both the left and right in say some oldschool track that has an organ on the left and a guitar on the right......... I could sample them both but hey sometimes I like to just get the stereo chop from and leave it how it sounds...nice and wide ~

can't you select which side to chop with the view command?
By selecting Left or Right doesn't that select the side you are chopping?
If so, then just chop the left, then go and chop the right.
Triggering them may not be phase aligned though.
I can see how chopping a stereo sound can lead to problems, that's why REcycle didn't do stereo for so long and they were the first to do it.
If you have a panning sound the chops for each side will not line up right. I think that's why they only do mono.
it doesn't bother me much, I don't really use it a lot.

No it doesn't. It does only output the left channel, regardless of what you select.

Why wouldn't they? It's no problem to keep left and right channel together - actually the Extract function does exactly that, as mentioned several times before. It's just not understandable why they didn't put it in the Chop function as well.

I mean the chop points. If you have a hard panned hihat on the left and a ride cymbal or something else on the right. You would want to have different chop points for each side of the stereo file other wise your hihat start chop might cut in the middle of a cymbal crash and make it sound like crap when you slowed the loop down.
I seriously doubt they just didn't think to do stereo chopshop and it had to do with a technical reason why they couldn't do it.
Like I said before Recycle didn't do stereo for a long time, probably because it is hard to do and they needed some real cpu power to figure it out.

It doesn't have to do with auto detect. It has to do with how the segements are played and how sync is maintained between the sides.
If the cut points are different and there is no way to maintain a sample for sample sync, which would happen if your left and right chops are different lengths, you would get phase problems just like if you cut a separate left and right file and assign them to two different pads.
the sequencer would need to be modified to handle not only the start time of triggering but be able to maintain a sample accurate phase between multiple clips, which is what you would get if you had different length chops.
We deal with this in video all the time between multiple tracks in Protools and the Fairlight.
It seems simple, just make it stereo, but it's probably pretty hard to do from a hardware and software aspect.

I don't get your point. I can't see what's the problem to cut and play back the left and right channel at exactly the same sample, in case you chop equal. And there is no reason why the left and right chops would not have the same length in that case.
When you Extract parts from a stereo sample to a new sample, it ain't a problem either after all.
Do I miss something here?
