NEW FOLDER-TOSHIBA 80GB HD

Alright, so I installed the Hard Drive that AKAI tested and approved (TOSHIBA 80GB) and everythings been fine for a month, made my tracks, spared my CF cards since I've been saving "Entire Memory" to the 80GB HD, Loaded them back in with no problem. Well, since 2 days ago , if I go to save inside the 80GB HD, I create a New Folder, but once I'm in that window theres NO LEAVING!! yep. it FREEZES.. lost my song after hours of work. Anyway, When I turned my machine back on and looked into my 80GB HD, the Folder I tried to create was actually in there created, EMPTY (of course) but it was there, so I made a Test beat and saved "Entire Memory" into that created Folder and it was fine, I loaded it back too. I tested this with the CF card and no problems all, so it seems the problem is with the 80GB HD, I can't create a new Folder to it without it freezing!

Has anybody else had the same problem? What can I do? Is it an OS thing? I'm not up for loosing all the other functions I need by upgrading the OS from 1.1 !!

Have you updated the OS since installing the hard drive?

It's recommended that you format the hard drive after every new installation.

Mine was crashing but i formatted it and haven't had the problem since.

Also, get into the habit of creating a blank folder BEFORE you make any tracks.

This way's pretty much safe

i actually had a very similar problem, BUT it was with my cf card....i was thinking maybe i had a bad cf card, or maybe it was the hard drive...in any event after a few hours in beats was lost and half of my hair was pulled out...

i ended up RE-installing the newest OS then i RE-formatted my hard drive and then Re-formatted my cf card...

and i have no clue why but i have not had 1 freeze since i did this (knock on wood)

so i would give that a try may seem like a pain but just do it and see what happens...IF that fails you then atleast you would know theres a 95% chance your problem has to do with faulty equip. (ram,hd,cf card) then you will have to trial and error to see which one is faulty....

yeah and date them as well, so you dont overwrite your previous save;

newchoon110706
newchoon120706
etc

then save progs and samples / seq and songs then entire mem in to every folder.

THIS JUST HAPPENED TO ME!!! It is the first time it has happened. I have had my unit for several months. I created a sequence and then went to save it. I created a new folder for it and then the machine froze. When I turned off and on again, the folder was there but obviously the sequence never got saved. ANOTHER BUG!!! Don't know what the problem was but wondered who else experienced this....

I tend to have the most freezes, actually, ALL of the instances that my MPC has frozen, it was in load/save mode.

isn't the tested toshiba hard drive 40 gigs instead of 80?

My 2500 froze after just being at the USB screen. It is linked to a powerbook and all the folders were there. when I went to go back to the MPC it was frozen. Can anyone relate or shed some light?[/b]

You're right, it is. And I didn't have problems like this with mine.

after searching online the toshiba 80g has had a major rep of working and then dying.....i would just change brands......

This has happened to me also with the CF card.Hopefully when the new OS gets here this problem will be sloved.Do like Spirez said and create your folder first, this way you won't lose any thing.
