majoring in "beatmaking" professionaly

I know the Scratch DJ Academy ( http://www.scratch.com/ ) that has various Dj courses offers one. They have schools in NY, LA, and MIA. The school in NY is the only one with a beat making course, Beat Making 101 and Beat making 202. Its about 6 classes each course and $400 a piece for each course. They only teach you through software such as Reason 2.5 and Ableton live 4.0...I don't know if thats worth $800 for 2 couses of 12 classes total, how much could they teach you in 12 classes you couldn't of learned yourself.

you are 15, right? well, start taking piano lesson and keep making beats. go to college but not major in music but minor in music. get a business, computer, etc degree. the key to the music business is getting something to fall back on if things do not work out.


there are allot of talented broke beatmakers/producers, get something to fall back on.

Definate cosign. GET ALL THE MUSIC THEORY you can. Minor in Music and Major in Marketing.


You will be much more than just a beat maker if you actually Learn MUSIC. learning scales/modes and chords/progressions will make you breeze through makin beats if you already have a natural knack for making beats


Write some SONGS and work on your song writing as you earn your degree. (There are a million beat makers in the world, but very few GREAT songwriters)

Get your gear now and learn all you can on your own. Then, when you go to class, you won't be like..."uhm, how do you record?"

Also, those programs are really just for the interest of the students, so don't think it will land you a job as a producer. You're on your own there...

Yeah loh big up the young cats I am a year younger than you but its good to see us young people get interested in this stuff so early on...we get get a head start

become a producer,not a half producer.Just making beats seems to be the easy way out,if you're looking to do it professionally.

im 17 years old and im gonna be a senior this year in high skool, im going to drexel university to enroll in their music industry program, its very helpful for the things us future producers wanna do,teaches u also about the business side of music,drexel also has a recoring studio and a label to work on your music,but yeah so i hope that helped u out, if your serious look in 2 that

go the music theory and song writing route. Theres plenty of schools that have song writing programs they teach you what to do with that theory you learned. if you have a artist come in and need to build a bridge around a guitar solo or help a female singer stay in tune so you add a piano part to help her harmonize , thats song writing.

I know we had a oldest person on the site thread a while back i think lamp came in at around 1200 yrs old or some shit lol but whos the youngest out you boys?

me prolly i turn 14 in like 10 days.

thats cool man you got alot of time to study up and the amount of knowledge and info availiable to your generation far excedes what i had availiable when i started. ( Im only 27 ) but digital audio was a twinkle in the eye when i was starting music. ( by digital i mean daw's and such )

yo stonesthrow--for a 13yr old ur sh*t sounds pretty good---but all ur beats have been sampled b4. y u using already sampled material?

I'm 35, there are a few older than me though. But yeah, 1200yrs would on some bible history shit, I can do 1200yrs old..
