Anyone using quirky Iomega Zip Drives???

I'm really getting tired of this blue piece of shiest. Suddenly my mpc wont recognize it. Anyone know what the deal is?

I use the "blue iomega 100 Mb " ZIP drive and it's workin' fine for 3 years,intensivly.....NO problem,never...

the deal is they suck. order another one from scsiforsamplers.com. its like 45 buck and comes with 2disks. the one i ordered works great

Why not cop the internal zip?

I also bought an external 'iomega zip 100'(blue) on ebay....but then I recognised that it is a parallel port drive or something!!
so I copped another one (this time I made shure that it is a scsi drive[scsi id switch]): 'iomega zip 100 plus'...AND IT STILL WON'T WORK!?!?
what the **** am I doing wrong?? at first I thought iomega drives don't work with the mpc at all; but as mpcvore said, it must work!

....at last I bought a harddrive to save my beats (but I still wanna get my zip drive(s) running to back them up)

No problem with mines. Did you check the termination switch?

you need to format disk with the MPC before it will recognize it.

Also terminate it with the switch and try different ID's (5 or 6)

maybe your ZIP don't work cos' you don't "close" the SCSI chain, that you have to...there is a little switch on the rear panel of the ZIP and you have to put it "on" to "terminate " the SCSI chain.......

forget the zips, its all about media cards, external (or internal) scsi PCMCIA card slot, PCMCIA compact flash adapter, compact flash card... works great, don’t have to worry about dropping disks, and no moving parts.. after I lost 2 zips disks and all the music on them, I switched to media cards and never looked back!

Staples has 256mb compact flash cards for $39.95!

hell two 100mb zip will cost you $40, and they are becoming obsolete REAL quick..

This is not true with the MPC2k series. You can format it is on DOS5.x and the MPC2k will recognize it.

My sentiments exactly. I'm glad to see others are using them too. I've been using CF cards for years in the MPC series and singing their praises.

Can anyone tell me where i can buy one of those internal scsi card readers in europe ?

ive got an external iomega250 zip drive and sometimes the mpc doesnt recognise it. whenever that happens switching of the mpc and the zip drive at the plug for a few minutes seems to cure it.
im not sure if its the same as your problem but that usally happens to me when i unplug one end of the scsi cable.

If you unplug the scsi cable while one of the devices is on (either the mpc or the zipdrive) then you are very likeliy to blow up one or both of your devices, scsi is not usb, you really should not (un)plug it while powered on. Best practice is to first turn on all external scsi devices and then the mpc, that way you make sure that the mpc 'discovers' all devices properly.

SCSI is a very fickle friend...

I always find cleaning the pins on the connector with a bit of cleaning alcohol helps.
