I made some .pgms using the MPC Editor (version 3) and I am experiencing some issues. If anyone has had a similar experience or knows of a solution, please let me know.

When I load up the .pgms I made with the MPC Editor on my 2500, it's not loading properly. In program mode, I can see that the pads are assigned samples with weird names that weren't originally added in MPC Editor.

If anyone can help me out, I would really appreciate the help.

you are copying the samples across with the PGM file right? put them all in the same directory. and copy that directory with all files to MPC - should work no probs.

samples are in correct format?

Were your original filesnames longer than 8 characters?

If so, do a serach and find out about the 8 character rule.

Shit, I gotta go and edit all my samples now. lol

Read the V1.21 addendum page 19.
Support for long 2000xl files was added, it can read 16 character xl names.
However there is a catch.

I think the part where the characters are being messed up is when it's being created in MPC Editor or BlueBox. It adds like ? and ~ characters to the names of the samples on the pads when the actual names of the samples are something completely different.

But, after renaming the files that were over 8 characters to be 8 characters or less, the editors loaded them in with their actual names. Then loading the .pgms created from the PC onto the MPC 2500, the files all load properly and refer to the right samples as well.

8-character rule. That's kind of bootsy, but whatever gets the job done and lets me access my samples quicker.

Thanks for all the help, this forum has a lot of helpful resources. Right on.[/quote]

Not really sure.
I do know I can take long file name samples into the MPCeditor and create a PGM, then export it as a 2000xl PGM to my iPAQ with no problems.
I can then take my iPAQ to the 2500 with no problem what so ever.
The PGM will load fine and play back correctly.
Even with the fact that the MPCeditor trunacted the name and added ~ symbol.

I guess I need to be looking up that 1.21, thanks, I didn't think anything else would happen for the xl.

It's the V1.21 for the 2500.
One of the things it added was better support of 2000xl files in the 2500.
Really should have been like that from the beginning since the 2500 replaced the xl.

Yeah my bad, I just saw that was for 2500. I agree, the 2500 should have been like that from the get go, I was thinking it was a replacement for the xl also but then I saw the menus, and it's looked like a BIG 1k machine, when I played with it I felt like I was playing on a 1k and I didn't like the feel and flow of the 1k menu.

That's what killed my interest in the 2500.

There was a thread by MPC3000 that explained it fully a while back.

But it's NOT an mpc edittor/bluebox problem, it's a fat16/mpc OS issue.

the mpc 2500 and 1000 use fat32 filesystem - kinda obvious because otherwise we couldn´t have harddisks above 4gigabyte size...
cannot comment on the abilities of the os because there is no official documentation for it.
