Song mode is really for arranging your sequences into a "song" structure.

Your should really have made all of your sequences first, then go into song mode and arrange them (the order they play in, how many times each seq repeats etc.) and press play in song mode to listen to it all and how how one part goes to the next to see if you like it.

Thats when you should decide.. hey i need a bridge here.. or this part dont work etc.. or goddam this sh!t is hot... mixdown!

Like stated make your sequences first. I usually have about 6 to 7 sequences. Once i have them i label them intro, verse, ect.. then i go into song mode and arrange those sequences based on the order I want them in. Which for me is usually intro, verse, chorus, bridge, and outro. I mean i have more than one verse and chorus now but thats just a standard layout for me. Song mode is def a saver for me cause since I have the mpc2000 im not able to record track mutes within in the mpc2000 but it does have a track mute screen so i use that to my advantage. It allows me to erase what i dont need or what i feel should not be there at that certain time. So now when i got into song mode all the drops/mutes are in there now all i gotta do is arrange. Im done. Now i usually record it as a two track stereo to my recorder so i can have a copy of it. Then i'll go back later and do a full mixdown.
