I don't really know who's really the best producer on the mic... I like Jay Dee and I like Kanye West after this album... there's lots though, I like El-P but i know alot of people ain't feeling him... I like Pete Rock also... damn it's a hard decision... I can't say Dr. Dre cause he doesn't write his rhymes or program his beats.... umm I guess I cant' pick just one....

El-P is another one of those figures that ppl are amazed by and i don't see the big deal..........I am lost.....Dr. Dre does Program his beatz.....and he programs the ppl that help make his beatz

I'm not trying to argue with the supreme moderator of all things MP, Prah "real talk" 860, but, if you look at the credits on alot of dr. dre tracks, it reads something like this: produced by dr. dre. Keyboards by mike elizondo, bass by jeff bass, drum programming by Mel Man. If you got the D12 album it says this everywhere, and the Eminem tracks say the exact same thing except drum programming is by DJ HEAD. In an article I read on dr. dre like two years ago, he said himself that he uses melman to program his drums cause he likes his flavor and swing, mel man programmed the drums on snoop's b!tch please with Xzibit...

Hmmm... that's a good question, it's hard to say cause I'm not there and you're not there... does Dre bang on a table and go "make the pattern go something like that.." Just messing with you... I think it's a possibility but don't you think these guys bring their own creativity to the table? It's hard to call... now that's some REAL TALK for real... but is telling someone to do something PROGRAMMING the beats? I'm not saying dre don't produce, I'm saying It seems like he doesn't program it... I'm like 98% sure he's arranging the stuff... But I see your point for sure. You're not supreme moderator for nothing.

I think alot of times cats don't realize that just because a person did not physically play a pattern or punch the MPC pads himself they can still be the producer. Think of it like this, when bands record live there is still a producer credit on the album. 9 times out of 10 they did not play any of the instruments so how did they get the production credit? A producer is a person that orchestrates a project from start to finish to develop the final product. get it product ----->producer. We generally take that word for granted, but using the real definition the "producer" could actually not have anything to do with the beat besides tracking it to hard disk or ADAT or whatever medium. I'm not trying to be an a$$hole just trying to shed some light. BTW producers that rap.......MJG from 8Ball and MJG and Pimp C of UGK can't forget these cats
