ASKING PRICE FOR BEATS

ive been making beats for a while but mosty for internal artist,im starting to catalog beats with some local artist in mine. what ya,ll players getting for a track that you put your heart into? price if its your own creation vs sampled, known local producer/unknown local producer? im taking track that would rival pro tracks not thrown together, dont want to look stupid or get jerked KNOWLEDGE ME

You might get an better response in the music biz section inless u already posted this there.

I can't tell you what to ask for your beats but i can say, if your are not making any real money out of the situation it is more important how the work you do represents you. Dont take a few hundred bucks just to have some wack song come out with your name on it.

hey im kinda new with this forum i didnt know the biz section existed until just before i read your response thnx i was thinking the same thing. did you her some of the tracks that the other cats are talking about selling on the biz site? if so what do you think

My two cents...if someone appreciates your music and wants to buy beatz...sell them if you are looking to generate income. They will do you no good sitting on your hard drive. As more people hear your music and are interested in buying your tracks...you can up your asking price as you build your rep.

I agree. It has to be something in it for you. If you're not getting paid any substantial money upfront, it should be an artist that you have a reasonable idea will sell records so you can make money on the back end. If they don't have a deal/distribution of any sort, will you get any major attention? If not, how do you benefit? Those are the things that I consider.

Well...if you are looking for money, you need to get it up front or you may never get anything. Many producers and/or beat makers usually get paid up front for their services. If you are looking to get money on the backend...what do you get if the artist flops as most artist do? (thus meaning, no net return on the investment spent putting out the CD in the first place). Well, at least sombody heard the track..maybe.

it all depends on what they can afford, I sold a beat for $XX,XXX before because I knew the person had that much money, and another one for a lil bit more once. But there's some cats that I have respect for that I wouldn't charge a dime for beats, and there's some local cats I might charge a couple hundred to... it all depends on how good an artist they are and what they can afford. But don't give all ur bangers away to fast for $10. Just get management and let them shop ur stuff out, u don't even need a real manager if u wanan do it local, tell cats to give word about ur stuff and pay'em 5% of the beat sale.
