Hey All
Gotta brand new 2000xl but when i put a disc in to format it doesnt recognise it and just says 'no disc' - ive used about 6 brand new discs, havent been exposed near speakers or dropped or anything
any ideas what this could be?

Broken zip drive. Return it to the seller.

Damn....Is there any way i could replace? what sort of prices are replacements?
I got this MPC on a sweet deal and would hate to have to get rid of it

Best bet is to find a similar model or that exact model and buy it. If you can get your money back for that zip drive I recommend you do that, if not then just put it aside. Ebay is a great place to get zip drives for a reasonable and low price.

I tought you bought it brand new. Well my advice is to rip that zipdrive out and to get a cf card reader installed. Do it now and thank me later :)

No. Depending on where you're living (shipping costs and everything) you should be able to get the exact same card reader at a much lower price. I bought the same one here:

http://www.synchrotech.com/products/card-rw_32.html

And the good thing is that since you are replacing and internal zipdrive, you won't need to do any mods inside your mpc, just take out the zip and connect the cardreader instead (make sure it's set to master via the switches on the back).

That's the same joint I have. I upgraded my XL with a card reader for $59.00 (shipping was 8 bucks) in about 10 minutes time. Since you got such a good deal, it's a no brainer to get that card reader. Trust me

hmm

Do not know if any of you read my external zip drive post... but this card reader is interesting, do you hook it up to the back of the MPC and how much space does it hold? and how is the ease in loading up drum and sound samples?
thanks
