Studio Monitors vs. Headphones

i started makin beats with some 150 buck AKG headphones - using them exlusivly,

it was so clear and sharp, but when i played the beat on my home stereo or car it was just a big dissapointment,

fustrating...

i think the way to go is using whatever you can get and getting a good feel of the sound - and how it will relate to differant speakers

im super happy with my Event ps6's - i just need a sub

I understand...but that is just a premix...then later on you have to mix it again to make sure everything sounds cohesive...so the mix you are talking about I don't even consider a big enough issue to care about. I worry about recordings.

With that said.........I guess it wouldn't hurt to start doing my mixes on monitors. Time to invest in some.

aren't AkG's mostly used for laying down vocals?. I have a pair of sennheiser and pair of akg, and I gotta say that AKG's add lotta warmth and bass to the sound in comparison to sennheiser which sound relatively flat.

Cans do a good job of helping you check reverb levels and panning issues. If you use several different reference sources, it'll probably improve your mix.....

it normally only takes me 1 check to get a mix right. i mix it check it in the car and then make minor tweaks and i usually get it. if it takes u to check the mixes a whole bunch of times then that only shows that whatever u r using for monitoring either isn't any good, the room is bad or u don't know your speakers.

I've always use headphones for my initial mix and then just use my stereo's speakers to reference it turning the Equaliser setting I have on and off to see how it sounds with and without the bass enhancement of the settings I use.

I think in the end you inscintively know what areas your headphones or speakers tend to accentuate and are able to adjust your mix accordingly.
