What can I take?

Hi,

I'm about to sell some beats to a guy who is making an Album right now.
He says the first Pressing will be 5000CDs and they are planning on two videos.

What can I take from him?

He wants turn it up, chilling in the rain and the beat from my DMX rmx, for those of you who know my beats.

I really could use the money, so I don't want to mees up the plan by asking for too much money.

Be fair. Since you're not really in "demand" try to work with meeting up somewhere in the middle.

Ask him what his budgets are. So you know how much other producers on the project are getting and how much you think you are entitled to.

If he's small time and doesn't have an actual business plan/budget..Ask him what he's willing to pay. Though he's liable to ask 20$ for beats

If I was you I would charge $250 for the 3 beats. Sort of like a publishing contract/lump sum for your weight. I think it's fair...Especially if he plans on actually selling atleast 1,500 copies for 10 a piece..meaning he's taking home 15,000 for the album.........250 dollars doesn't seem really like much now huh? lol

You might think 250 is cheap..........BUT in my opinion its more important to build relationships and build a resume so you can be eligible for publishing and be represented by a performing rights organization.

But to late. I got it all worked out now. I'm getting 250euros... for each beat. 250 in front and 500 about three months after the release.

I think this is Ok, although I wanted a thousand so I could an MPC1k

But I think, I'll be using the money to finally BUY a lot of Programms.

They also said, they'll be givin' my name around and come back for more later.

Damn, I can't believe it cos in fact I never thought I would get ANY money from making music...

Yeah thx, but you know the problem is, i can hardly identifie myself with this label, they're a copy of a german label that is a copy of the Gangsta-Rap Scene in the U.S.

I would rather make music with the good people you know...

we all had to start working from the bottom up. I dont remember seeing anybody becoming CEO at birth you know...Work hard so you don't have to comprimise your self in the future

Tell the German dude that you need to get WRITERS credits on the tracks.. If he is in Germany he will register the songs with GEMA. If there are uncleared samples in the tracks don't go crazy worrying about it but if the beats are all yours you are setting yourself up to get screwed.
you must get writers credit and also ask about a publishibng deal as well
