a challenge for the expert members

o.k. here the problem, if your using your mpc to sequence sounds from a keyboard, the mpc pgm only goes up to 128. i have like 800 sounds in my keyboard, the mpc only accesses the first 128 sounds. how do i use the other sounds in my keyboard for my sequences? me and phatz was up to like 2:00 am trying to find a solution.

128 what? You got 16 midi channels to work with, so you should only be able to use 16 patches at once right?

i dont know what kind of keyboard youre using... but did you try sending program change messages from the mpc? usually keyboards are organized in banks of 128 sounds (im thinking the way the drum sets were laid out on my old groovebox).
so put it in Omni off/ Poly (mode 3) so that the keyboard can play different sounds on each individual MIDI channel and then send bank and program select messages to choose the programs you want to play.

so MIDI: 1A would play the first program of 128 sounds, MIDI: 2A would play the next bank, and so on.

maybe you already tried this. good luck.

Descartes is correct, CC messages would be the solution or you could change the bank within the keyboard and save all the program and bank data later with sys ex.

well i have a yamaha psr 2000, it groups its sound by class, not banks,Example: pianos, bass, strings Guitar,woodwind ect, and each class of voices dont hold 128 programs, there might be diffrent 12 pianos, 15 diffrent strings ect. i just need a soulution please help, even if one of u polished midi buffs can pull up the manual to see if you see something i missed. thanks

Here's another trick, start recording a midi track on your mpc and make sure it's recording midi data coming from your keyboard. Then change to the desired sound on your keyboard, if everything goes wel this program change will be recorded in the midi track of your MPC. Now stop recording go into step edit and start looking for the program change event that you recorded, now you will see immediately what program changes to send from the mpc to your keyboard in order to get the right 'sound'. To display the LSB/MSB values for the voices on the PSR2000 press Function> Utility> Config2> change " DISPLAY VOICE NUMBER" to ON.
